San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is at the center of a coaching controversy, and it’s not going to end well for him or his new club.
The “49ers news” is a former 49ers Pro Bowler who has called out Jimmy Garoppolo for poor leadership and warned that Trey Lance is on his heels. The player also said that there are a lot of excuses going around the team.
Through the first six games of the 2021 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers have underachieved. They’re 2-4 right now and don’t look to be serious contenders in the congested NFC West. With Trey Lance waiting in the wings, Jimmy Garoppolo’s future in San Francisco is unknown.
Jimmy G’s performance so far has been criticized by a former 49ers Pro Bowler, who slammed how he’s handled adversity.
Jimmy Garoppolo hasn’t done anything to cement his place as the 49ers’ starting quarterback.
When you sell the farm to replace Jimmy Garoppolo, the slogan “Jimmy Garoppolo offers us the greatest opportunity to win” doesn’t work.

Jimmy Garoppolo was acquired from the New England Patriots as a possible future quarterback for the 49ers. The Eastern Illinois product, on the other hand, hasn’t fared as well as they had intended.
In his five seasons with the club, Garoppolo has made 35 starts. He’s passed for 8,458 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions throughout the course of his career. With the 29-year-old at the helm, the 49ers have a 24-11 record.
Jimmy G was selected the starting quarterback for the 2021 season ahead of Trey Lance by Kyle Shanahan, but he’s not going to blow anybody away. He’s evolved into more of a game manager after moving to San Francisco. However, if they want to win in the future, it isn’t enough.
According to Pro Football Talk, Shanahan has said that the starting quarterback position for the 49ers is not up for grabs. San Francisco has already lost four games in a row, thus the head coach should reassess his position.
Lance may not be the best option right now. Even yet, if the 49ers lose a few more games, the season will be a wash in 2021.
Donte Whitner, a former Pro Bowler, is fed up with excuses.

Donte Whitner spent three of his 11 NFL seasons with the 49ers. He now serves as an analyst for NBC Sports Bay Area, where he covers the San Francisco 49ers.
After the Week 7 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football, the former Pro Bowl safety criticized Jimmy Garoppolo’s post-game remarks.
Jimmy G alluded to the ups and downs of an NFL season, implying that the 49ers aren’t out of it yet. Whitner was offended by the comments and chastised the eighth-year quarterback.
According to NBC Sports Bay Area, Whitner added, “I hear a lot of excuses coming out of Jimmy’s lips.” “We understand, Jimmy.” That’s something you’ve been saying for a long time. ‘We have to put our plans into action.’ You can’t toss the ball to the defense, that’s for sure. When you’re in the pocket, you have to look after the ball. You’re aware that the ball is slick, yet you’re still gripping it as if no one is coming to attack you.”
“These are the factors that contribute to defeats,” the analyst-turned-player remarked. “They may go out of here with a victory today if they have better leadership, better throws, a better knowledge of the system, and a little more fire.”
Jimmy G has to solve these flaws immediately, according to Whitner, or “it’s going to be Trey Lance time.”
Jimmy G has to do more to keep Trey Lance at bay.
Trey Lance was selected with the No. 3 overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, who spent a lot of money on him. It’s difficult to picture the front management trading up to get a guy just to have him sit out the majority of the season.
As the regular season approaches the midway point, speculation will abound as to when Lance will return to the lineup full-time.
While Jimmy Garoppolo was out with a calf injury, the North Dakota State graduate made his NFL debut against the Arizona Cardinals. Lance wasn’t very impressive, but that’s to be expected from a rookie.
The 21-year-old has been Jimmy G’s backup for the most of the 2021 season. It’s not a question of if, but when the youngster takes over, like it was with Justin Fields and Andy Dalton in Chicago.
Garoppolo isn’t a poor quarterback, but he hasn’t yet shown that he can be the 49ers’ starting quarterback. If he did, Lance would not have been picked by the front office.
Trey Lance went down with a knee injury against the Cardinals, allowing Garoppolo to take over as the starter. He didn’t put forth enough effort to establish his claim.
Kyle Shanahan does not have faith in Jimmy Garoppolo, and it’s understandable.
