But, it may only be a matter of time before one of those two top receivers forces the Packers to raid the division rival Minnesota Vikings’ farm team the Chicago Bears to acquire another target for Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams have developed into perhaps the most dominating quarterback-receiver tandem in the NFL, according to Green Bay Packers fans. After leading the league with 48 touchdown passes last season, the strong-armed signal-caller earned his third MVP award. For the first time in his career, his No. 1 target earned first-team All-Pro accolades.
However, Rodgers and Adams’ prospects of repeating their success together seem to be lower than ever.
According to the newest rumors on the team’s two greatest players, general manager Brian Gutekunst may be forced to fulfill Packers fans’ worst fear.
The fate of the Packers’ two most prominent players are in doubt.
During the 2020 season, Packers fans saw Rodgers and Adams dominate defenses like they had never seen before. However, after seven years of torching corners and safeties together, the duo may never play together again.
After all, both players’ futures with the only organization they’ve ever played for are in jeopardy.
Rodgers’ problems are related to the front office. Given that he allegedly turned down a contract extension offer from the Packers, which would have given him the league’s highest-paid player, it’s obvious that money alone won’t entice the reigning MVP to return to Green Bay. But, with Gutekunst unwilling to consider moving one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time (at least publicly), it’s impossible to anticipate what will happen between Rodgers and the Packers.
Meanwhile, Green Bay supporters must be concerned about the future of another key component of the offense. Adams enters the last year of a four-year, $58 million contract he signed in December 2017, after a season in which he set a career best with 115 receptions and led the NFL with 18 receiving touchdowns. In the passing game, the next free agency obviously adds a lot of value. If the Packers and Adams can’t agree on a price that meets Adams’ financial expectations, they’ll have to look for a new No. 1 receiver.
Isn’t it not a formula for long-term success?

Unfortunately for Green Bay Packers supporters, the newest reports on the team’s two offensive studs portend problems for the team’s future. Indeed, given the current state of affairs, it’s possible that Rodgers and Adams could soon push Gutekunst to do the unthinkable: sell them both.
While it is a nightmarish scenario for a fan base that has already had to consider the possibility of never seeing No. 12 in the starting lineup again, it seems to be more probable than ever before.
“Las Vegas bookmakers are prepared for Aaron Rodgers to retire and not return to the Green Bay Packers,” writes Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated.
That clearly does not bode well for the team’s prospects of reaching the Super Bowl. However, if Rodgers intends to retire, it makes little sense for the Packers to keep him and not attempt to obtain a decent return for a quarterback who earned his third MVP award at the age of 37.
Furthermore, given Ian Rapoport’s claim that Adams and the Packers are “now in a terrible position” after ending long-term contract negotiations, it’s reasonable to speculate that the 28-year-old wideout might be traded as well. If Adams adopts a similar position as Rodgers as a consequence of the way the negotiations have gone, Green Bay may find itself with unhappy stars looking to go.
Gutekunst may prefer to keep control of both situations, but given the circumstances, he may have little option but to sell both players for a hefty price. Unfortunately for Packers supporters, the possibility of Rodgers and Adams leaving the club before the start of the next season seems to be much more probable than anybody could have predicted before this week. Green Bay’s prospects of earning a Super Bowl championship in the near future would be ruined by trading away two longstanding leaders and elite-level contributors, but it may be the only option for Gutekunst to move ahead.
What are some of Rodgers and Adams’ preferred trading destinations?
While it would be exciting to see Rodgers and Adams continue their friendship in another league, the reality is that most clubs lack the draft resources to acquire both players.
So, where do you think each participant should land?
Rodgers seems to be a perfect match for the Denver Broncos. Unlike Gutekunst, John Elway has made significant investments in the skill positions in recent years. Rodgers would be in charge of an offense that has Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and KJ Hamler, all of whom are excellent receivers. Plus, as pass catchers, tight ends Noah Fant and Albert Okwuegbunam have the speed and agility to do significant damage. When you consider that the Broncos have a championship-caliber defense, it’s easy to get excited about the possibility of a Rodgers-led team.
What about Adams?
His situation is somewhat different since he need a fresh contract. The four-time Pro Bowler has a solid case for a record-breaking deal, which would require a club to pay him at least $20 million each season, based on his career.
A couple clubs stand out as possible landing places for Adams based on positional necessity and future salary-cap concerns.
First and foremost, any discussion about acquiring an outstanding receiver must include the Patriots. Bill Belichick could definitely need additional assistance at the position, even after spending a significant amount of money on Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. However, given the draft compensation and guaranteed money that acquiring and keeping Adams might entail, Belichick may not want to spend such a large amount of money on a single player.
Is it possible that the Indianapolis Colts may make a play for Adams? General manager Chris Ballard has put together a strong roster, but the offense is in desperate need of additional punch. Why not get a known commodity instead of taking a chance on a receiver in the draft?
Ultimately, adding either Aaron Rodgers or Davante Adams would improve almost every NFL club.
Given the current state of affairs, the possibility of adding both before the start of the 2021 season seems to be a pipe dream that might come true for one fortunate fan base.
