Battlefield is one of those franchises that, while incredibly successful, is often overlooked. Sure, people know it for being a first person shooter, but that doesn’t really do it justice. It’s one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time and has a fan-base just as passionate as any other FPS.

“Battlefield 2042”, the upcoming first-person cooperative shooter based on the popular Battlefield franchise, has just got an official release date: October 19, 2015.

Battlefield 2042 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Swedish studio DICE and published by Electronic Arts. Battlefield 2042 was announced on January 30, 2012 and is set to be released in October 2012 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Battlefield 2042’s engine is built on DICE’s Frostbite 2.0 platform, and made use of the Frostbite 2’s improved particle system.

word-image-4806 As expected, Electronic Arts revealed the next installment in the Battlefield franchise during a recent live event. Battlefield 2042 (not to be confused with the 2006 game, Battlefield 2142) comes out on the 22nd. October for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Unlike all Battlefield games of the past 15 years, Battlefield 2042 will not feature a single-player campaign. Instead, it will focus entirely on multiplayer, building on the first three games in the series. However, it will not have a Battle Royale component. At least at the time of launch and at the time of writing this article. The multiplayer mode will include 128 players on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. On PS4 and Xbox One, the number of players is limited to 64. EA and DICE released a 5-minute cinematic trailer during the livestream. The trailer can be seen at the top of this article. It shows a series of frantic battles in various locations, many of which undoubtedly hint at the map types in the final version of the game. A few previews of the new Battlefield have already been released, many of which, including this fine one from Eurogamer, point out that the game will offer ways to influence gameplay from moment to moment. These variables seem to be built into the maps, such as the rocket launches mentioned by Eurogamer or the storms and tornadoes shown in the trailer and mentioned by Game Informer. Overall, it looks like the next Battlefield will take the name All Out Warfare that EA gave it during development. Oscar Gabrielson, CEO of DICE, said in April: I can tell you this is a bold move. It has everything we love about Battlefield – and it takes it to the next level. An epic scale. Total war. Some crazy and unexpected moments. A game-changing destruction. Huge battles with more players and more chaos than ever. All of this will be possible thanks to the power of next-generation consoles and PCs. It is currently unknown how many modes will be in Battlefield 2042 when it comes out. However, the announcement press release talks about the Conquest, Breakthrough and Danger Zone game modes, with the latter being an all-new high-stakes team game. EA said it was different from the other two modes mentioned, but gave no details yet. A fourth game mode is in development and is described as a love letter to Battlefield fans. At the end of the Battlefield 2042 cinematic trailer , it states that fans can expect a gameplay reveal on the 13th. We can expect a June, which falls right around the time of E3 2021. While the developer and publisher won’t be officially present at E3, it looks like there will be some sort of live stream. Battlefield 2042 is now available for pre-order on Origin, Steam, PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. It is also available in physical form on Amazon and other outlets. There are three versions available, but they are sold at different prices depending on the platform they are purchased for.
