The Boston Celtics have reportedly been in contact with Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas regarding a possible reunion with the franchise. The reported interest comes from a source that Thomas himself has told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. This would mark Thomas’ first return to the team since he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in August of 2017.

After two years away, prominent free agent Isaiah Thomas is reportedly preparing to announce his return to the Boston Celtics (probably at some point during a free agency period that will overlap the July NBA Draft).

A report from the Boston Globe indicates that the Boston Celtics have interest in the possibility of a reunion with former All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas, who was traded from the team in July of 2017 after Thomas requested a trade. The Celtics reportedly have been in talks with Thomas’s representatives about a possible return to the team, but remain cautious about the trade prospects of Thomas.

It’s incredible that the Isaiah Thomas saga has taken this long to resurface with the Boston Celtics. The rumor mill is in full gear as NBA free agency begins. According to one of the speculations circulating in Boston, the Celtics are interested in bringing back their All-Star point guard.

With the Boston Celtics, Isaiah Thomas became an immediate star.

Despite his stated height of 5-foot-9, Thomas was a major player in Boston during his two-plus seasons there. Thomas has played in the NBA for ten seasons with eight different clubs. His only two NBA All-Star appearances came during his two full seasons with the Celtics.

Thomas has been the underdog his whole life. It is still the case. After being chosen by the Sacramento Kings in the 2011 NBA Draft, he spent the first three years of his career there, averaging 15.3 points per game.

Thomas was moved to the Phoenix Suns in the summer of 2014, however he only played 46 games before being sent back to the Kings. The Celtics got him this time in exchange for Marcus Thornton and a first-round selection. In Boston, he became an instant celebrity.

Thomas came off the bench in all 21 games he played in Boston and delivered immediate offense, averaging 19.0 points and 5.4 assists per game.

He became the team’s starting guard for the next two seasons, scoring 22.2 points per game in his first year and a career-high 28.9 points the following year.

Isaiah Thomas is reported to be interested in returning to the Boston Celtics.

The NBA’s free agency period began Monday night, with players able to begin discussing contracts with clubs. Players won’t be able to sign a contract until August 6th.

The start of free agency brings with it rumors. According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the Celtics are interested in reuniting with their former point guard.

“I’m informed that Boston is interested in reuniting with Isaiah Thomas, with new Celtics head of basketball operations Brad Stevens being one of Thomas’ greatest fans,” he tweeted.

Thomas was the center of attention in Boston throughout his stay there. Should he return, he won’t have to be since the Celtics have one of the finest young duos in the game in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. This season, both were selected NBA All-Stars. Thomas would most likely return to the role he had in the team’s first 21 games, coming off the bench to offer an offensive spark.

Thomas won the hearts of Celtics supporters.

Celtics fans adored Thomas back then, and he would almost certainly be welcomed back with open arms if he returned. During his stay in Boston, Thomas contributed all he had. He demonstrated his tenacity and commitment by playing right after his sister, Chyna, died unexpectedly on April 15, 2017.

Thomas participated in the Celtics’ playoff game against the Chicago Bulls one day after learning of her death. In a 106-102 defeat, he scored 33 points.

According to USA Today, Celtics coach Brad Stevens stated after the game, “He was amazing.” “He’s a fantastic player and a fantastic guy. And the days aren’t going to get any easier for him, yet he still manages to play like that.”

The Celtics came back to win the series against the Bulls. Thomas traveled across the nation to be with his family and attend the burial of his sister. He returned to play in Game 1 of the series against the Washington Wizards. In Game 2, he scored 53 points in overtime to win the game. On top of everything, it was Chyna’s birthday.

Thomas has given the Celtics everything, and now it’s time for them to give him another chance.
