Despite being one of the NBA’s most decorated players, Michael Jordan rarely openly discusses his personal life. But that seems to have changed—at least, when it involves the Washington Wizards.

After the Wizards beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bradley Beal stated that he was surprised when he received a call from Michael Jordan who wanted him to join the Jordan Brand. Jordan was hoping to have Beal join his family out of respect for his success and accomplishments. “But I’m not joining a brand, it’s just for some things in the future.”

Bradley Beal has become one of the most interesting players in the NBA, but he doesn’t just entertain fans. Beal’s play impressed NBA legend Michael Jordan, and in 2020 the Washington Wizards star was inducted into the Jordan Brand team by the Hall of Fame.

Beal recently spoke about the moment he heard Jordan wanted him to join his exclusive club, and it was a moment that totally took him by surprise.

Bradley Beal goes to Jordan Brand in 2020

Beal began his career at Nike, the parent company of Jordan Brand. However, after transforming himself into one of the NBA’s top scorers, averaging over 30 points per game in 2019-20, Beal joined the MJ club in December 2020.

It’s a very exclusive thing, he told AirJordan.com at the time, according to Bleacher Report. They take very good care of their athletes and tell their stories very nicely. It is a responsibility to represent the brand. I look forward to this opportunity and to being a part of our family.

Beal joins Jordan Brand’s roster, which also includes Wizards teammate Russell Westbrook, Jason Tatum, Luka Doncic, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and others.

Beal recently appeared on The Players’ Tribune Knuckleheads podcast with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles . Richardson and Miles came to Jordan Brand just a few years after Nike and MJ launched. So they asked Beale how he felt when he heard he needed GOAT.

It was the last year of my contract with [Nike], and Nike told me: Well, Jumpman is very interested in you, and I say О…. Я ? Beale said. … Mike doesn’t like anybody. Mike doesn’t like anybody. So I thought: Okay, if he drew it, it must be something special.

Jordan Brand was also quick to impress Beale.

Between the introduction, talking to him and getting to know the guys, it’s just not realistic, he said. I have too many boxes. My wife scolded me for having too many boxes. … I like it, man. They treat you like family, it’s love.

Beal seems to like being part of Jordan Brand, and it probably only adds to his already huge net worth, estimated at $40 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Beal also comes into the game at the right time. The brand has grown from a small subsidiary of Nike to a huge, lucrative enterprise.

In September 1997, Nike officially announced the launch of Jordan Brand. Jordan then welcomed his starting five, consisting of Ray Allen, Derek Anderson, Vin Baker, Michael Finley and Eddie Jones.

But when Allen first heard about it, it was just a concept, he didn’t even know what it was.

We’ve never seen anything like it, Allen said on the June 8 episode of Knuckleheads with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles. Because I’ve always worn Nikes, and I chose Nike; Nike is going to be the umbrella company for Jordan, so I’m all for it, I’m all for it. If Jordan does it, I want to be there.

Now, more than 20 years later, Jordan Brand is one of the dominant forces in the sport. In the fiscal year ending May 2019, the company earned $3.1 billion and is worth more than $10 billion, according to Forbes. It has spread to other sports and leagues. Athletes like NFL quarterback Dak Prescott, MLB legend Derek Jeter and WNBA star Maya Moore are Jordan Brand athletes.

Beal is relatively new to Jordan Brand, but he seems to have quickly caught on to how dominant he is, much like Michael Jordan’s dominance on the basketball court. He’s in good hands.
