Recently, in an interview with allen reid of ESPN, Carson Wentz said some good things about the Indianapolis Colts. This should be no surprise to Eagles fans, as they have been excited about how Wentz’s skills have translated to the field. Wentz has been open about the fact that he has been impressed with Andrew Luck, and it seems he was not kidding around.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Colts quarterback Andrew Luck supposedly spent several hours with Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz during the Colts’ week of practice in early August. The two quarterbacks are friends and have been since Wentz entered the league, and this was the first time they’d spent any significant time together since Luck left the Eagles for good in March. The two quarterbacks are reportedly still close, which is why many believe the story is an exaggeration.

It’s no secret that Carson Wentz is a huge fan of the Colts (and by extension, Andrew Luck), so it should come as no surprise that he’s been praising the Colts on social media this week. Wentz took to Instagram to share a photo of him hand-signed by Andrew Luck, a little something a man would never do unless he was serious about a team.. Philadelphia Eagles fans already had reason to be interested in Carson Wentz, who plays for the Indianapolis Colts.

After five years in the City of Brotherly Love, the former second-year player is trying to revive his career in Peyton Manning’s old country. In a recent interview, Wentz made comments that should make Eagles fans explode with anger at his former quarterback and the franchise as a whole.

Don’t get me wrong, Wentz is trying to show himself as someone who wants to start over and become the best new version of himself.

Throughout the offseason, the former Pro Bowl-winning quarterback has expressed his optimism and often said how excited he is to play under Colts head coach Frank Reich. They previously worked together in Philadelphia when Reich was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator during the 2016-17 season.

The change in environment also had a positive effect on Wentz’s mental health. According to the Indianapolis Star newspaper, the veteran quarterback shared his excitement for the upcoming season and how he feels comfortable with his new team.

I really feel like I have a new passion for the game. I’ve been on the pitch, I’ve been injured, I’ve been on the bench, I’ve been substituted, I’ve seen a lot in five years, so whatever the game brings me, I’m ready.

A change of scenery often benefits everyone, and Tom Brady can attest to how it went when he left the New England Patriots to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But don’t expect Eagles fans to smile and wish Wentz luck when they read these comments.

As cliché as the idea of a marriage between player and team may sound, this euphemism is used for a reason. For better or worse, they are bound together, hoping to build something special until death, retirement, free will or an exchange separates them.

When Wentz talks about a new passion, it’s hard not to see those feelings as an attack on the Eagles organization. He admitted why he felt that way – injuries, being benched last year and a host of other factors – but the comments should still hurt. Would he have found this new level of comfort and love for the game if he had stayed in Philadelphia a little longer?

Although the Eagles won the Super Bowl in all five of Wentz’s seasons, they did so in the postseason with Nick Foles at the helm. So it’s fair to say the Eagles didn’t have much success when Wentz was the starting quarterback.

What should really anger Eagles fans is the idea that Doug Pederson and the previous regime failed to mark the end of the Wentz era. If Wentz continues under Reich and becomes an MVP candidate again, the Birds’ supporters could argue that the team gave up on him too early or didn’t prepare him for success.

And yes, some will say the Eagles should have hired Reich instead of Pederson or even tried to get him from the Colts earlier this year. However, the first idea is based on hindsight, while the second borders on the ridiculous. Reich probably wouldn’t leave the good situation in Indianapolis, even with Philip Rivers gone, to lead a rebuilding Eagles team.

Reich and Wentz could work in 2021

As for the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars, the AFC South is a two-horse division. The Colts and Tennessee Titans are obviously the favorites to win the South; for the Colts, it would be their first division title since 2014.

It will be interesting to see how Wentz and his improved mental health handle the Colts. He already has experience with Reich, and the Colts have several talented offensive players returning. Sophomore Jonathan Taylor shot to fame in his first season, and veteran receiver T.J. Hilton decided to sign for his 10th season in Indianapolis.

If Reich can work magic with Wentz again, it doesn’t seem unrealistic that the Colts will easily win the AFC South. Can they make it to the Super Bowl? Beating Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen seems difficult, but Wentz has shocked the world before.

Unfortunately, the Eagles will have to wait until 2022 to get Wentz back. Unless the Colts and Eagles meet in Super Bowl 56….. but that’s not gonna happen, is it?
