There’s an obvious reason why the Green Bay Packers didn’t just fire the quarterback after he threw five interceptions in the first half of last Monday night’s game against the Chicago Bears. It wasn’t the result of Aaron Rodgers’ arm, which was fine. It was that Rodgers is the Packers’ franchise quarterback, and they wouldn’t do something that crazy unless they were absolutely sure it would work.

No one really knows how Aaron Rodgers feels about his future (or lack thereof) with the Green Bay Packers.

None other than Aaron Rodgers.

But that can change quickly. During Tuesday’s Capital One game, commentators asked Rodgers if he would return to Green Bay before the start of the 2021 season. And while the reigning NFL MVP didn’t reveal any details about his future plans, he did hint that NBA legend Charles Barkley will soon learn the secret that Rodgers is hiding from the Packers.

Aaron Rodgers continues to dodge questions about his future with the Packers

Rodgers has been quiet all season about his future with the Packers. We do know a few things.

We know Rodgers asked for a trade after Green Bay lost to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game. We know the superstar quarterback has yet to report to the Packers’ workouts. And we know his relationship with Packers general manager Mark Murphy and general manager Brian Gutekunst may be broken beyond recognition.

It’s unclear if Rodgers plans to step up to start next season.

The nine-time Pro Bowler had a chance to clear up any doubts on Tuesday, but he only created new ones. At one point during the TNT golf tournament, guest commentators Brian Anderson and Larry Fitzgerald tried to get a straight answer from Rodgers.

Their attempts were unsuccessful.

Anderson: Packers-Bears… Any idea who will be there, who will be the quarterback with the number 12 jersey?

Rogers: Yeah, I don’t know, B.A. We’ll see. We’ll see, won’t we?

Anderson: How about the 12th? September? Are you going to do it?

Rogers: What is it?

Anderson: That would be an opening against the Saints.

Rogers: О. Yeah, I don’t know, B.A. We’ll see. I know you’re from Milwaukee.

Fitzgerald: Aaron, everybody stay alert. They want to know, man, they want to know.

Then Rogers decided he’d heard enough and tried to change the subject.

I mean, I’m just having a good time here with Tom, he said with a smile. I try to talk to him to see if he will continue playing or not.

So Rodgers gave Anderson and Fitzgerald nothing to work with, but he did have an interesting comment for Barkley afterwards.

You’d think Barkley isn’t the most relaxed source to confide all his deepest, darkest secrets to, but Rodgers could make the NBA Hall of Fame and TNT commentator his closest confidant this offseason.

After discussing his future with Anderson and Fitzgerald, Rodgers Barkley gave a surprising answer to his question.

Hey, Aaron, you and I go way back. You can just tell me. I’ll keep it a secret, Barkley said. I promise I won’t put it down anywhere.

Everyone on set laughed at Barkley’s joke, but judging by Rogers’ reaction, he might not have been joking at all.

Charles, I’ll tell you this week in Tahoe, okay? And you can phase it out.

Wow. That is a very eloquent message for such a short statement.

What does this all mean for Packers fans?

.

Packers fans must be tired of Rodgers continuing to hold back and constantly dodging questions about when he will be back with the team. All would be forgiven if the QB were back in the first week of the 2021 season, but the odds of that happening are getting smaller by the day.

Rodgers has yet to give fans any real clues about his future plans, but perhaps he did with his cryptic comments about Barkley.

That is:

a. Rogers and Barkley are good friends.

b. This week in Tahoe, they will talk about the Packers.

c. Rogers wants Barkley to share the information he gets.

Whether Rodgers was joking remains to be seen, but at least he sounded sincere and completely waved off any other questions about his NFL future. Don’t be surprised if we go after Rodgers and the Packers later in the week.

And when we do, we’ll know exactly who the source is.
