Aaron Rodgers is a pretty good quarterback. He’s been an MVP twice in his career, and if you think about it, he’s been the best player in the NFL for the last six years. Still, it’s hard not to notice that Rodgers has been the face of the Packers offense for a long time and it’s hard to imagine the team without him.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams had a goal in mind when he made a commitment to the team to become the complete player he could be. Adams was talking about getting on the field and getting more snaps. He spoke of becoming a better blocker and route runner. But, in a national interview, the 22-year-old talked of wanting more than just playing, he talked about being a leader.

The Green Bay Packers have a valuable outside weapon, and that’s why they’ve been so aggressive in free agency. So far they’ve signed Randall Cobb, Jimmy Graham, and Bryan Bulaga. Davante Adams was one of the final big names to hit the market, and the Packers were not messing around, offering him a deal that is reportedly worth around $40 million.

When the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers part ways, Davante Adams is the guy who plans to run.

But instead of yelling and pouting, as his quarterback has been doing for months, the Pro Bowl winner is taking a different approach – and one that will be crucial for the Packers in the months ahead.

Adams continues to flirt with Raiders in 2022

Sports fans are obsessed with scheduling Free Agency and the Draft. Why else would LeBron James presentThe Decisionin the summer of 2010?

In December 2017, Adams and the Packers agreed to a four-year, $58 million contract extension. The explosive catcher is entering the final year of his contract and will receive a base salary of $12.2 million for the 2021 season.

Because it’s never too early to speculate about a free agent, Adams has already been linked to the Las Vegas Raiders. The 28-year-old grew up in California and played at Fresno State, where he caught touchdown passes from Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in the early 2010s.

According to The Mercury News, Adams said he couldn’t be too far ahead regarding free agency. What he said next, however, should be of particular interest to Packers fans.

If the season is over and nothing comes of it, then maybe we’ll have something to say. But since this is a sensitive topic, I can’t go into it now.

Davante Adams

That’s a clear commitment to his future in Green Bay, if anything. For his part, Carr recently said he wants Adams with the Raiders if possible.

Should the Packers be worried about Adams following Rogers and taking over the job?

As the 2021 NFL season approaches, the feud between Rodgers and the Packers remains unresolved. The three-time NFL MVP has shown no signs of moving to the Packers in the coming weeks.

Rodgers’ problem is bad enough, even with Jordan Love waiting in the wings, confidently proclaiming that he will take over a dangerous offense. But the Packers must now fear that Adams will take a similar stance.

Adams is already subtly hinting that he won’t be playing for the Packers anytime soon. So what’s stopping him from following in Le’Veon Bell’s footsteps and missing the 2021 season? Without Rodgers at quarterback, Adams’ numbers could drop significantly just before he is eliminated.

It would be a risk, but Adams is also coming off the best season of his career. Last year, he set records for catches (115) and touchdowns (18) and accumulated 1,374 yards, the second most in seven career seasons. Those are the numbers that would ensure a contract extension in Green Bay or a big payday on the open market if he were a free agent.

But Adams has at least participated in the Packers’ offseason workouts, and from what he said, he is determined to play in a green and white jersey this season. That’s good news – and with Rodgers standing firm, Packers fans can use all the good news they can get.

Carr and Adams would be an intriguing duo for the Raiders

Adams would be a brave man to leave the Packers, a perennial playoff threat in the NFC, for a Raiders organization that has reached the postseason just once since the start of the 2003 season.

Carr and the Raiders have a lot to say because of the tampering rules. But if Adams comes onto the free agent market in 2022 and is ready to play in Las Vegas, the Raiders will have to move on, as Carr said.

Adams and Carr have a history together: In the 2012-2013 season, he caught 233 balls for 3,031 yards and 38 touchdowns in 26 games for the Bulldogs. Who knows what they’ll do in the NFL, especially offensively with Josh Jacobs and Darren Waller in the backline?

The Raiders have needed a reliable and consistent #1 receiver for decades. Unfortunately for Raiders fans, Randy Moss didn’t live up to expectations, Amari Cooper shined before the team traded him to Dallas, and the less said about Darrius Heyward-Bey the better.

But who knows? Maybe Adams will sign with the Raiders next year and Rodgers will be his starting quarterback. At least Packers fans won’t have to worry about playing against the Raiders in the regular season until 2023 at the earliest.
