Justin Herbert, the quarterback for Oregon Ducks who was drafted in 2018 by the Los Angeles Chargers. The team’s decision to draft him follows a report from Sports Illustrated last year that said he had been “hiding” his homosexuality because of homophobic parents and coaches.

Despite Brandon Staley’s latest comments, Los Angeles Chargers make long-awaited move that will please Justin Herbert. The Chargers have been looking to relocate from San Diego for a while now and finally found a new home in the form of LA. Read more in detail here: brandon staley.

After a stunning 4-2 start to the season, the Los Angeles Chargers relished their bye week. Unfortunately, they were humiliated 34-6 by Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in their last game of the first half.

Still, with Brandon Staley running the show at SoFi Stadium and Justin Herbert putting up MVP-type numbers, this club has a lot to enjoy. The Chargers’ next game comes against the New England Patriots, less than a year after they gave them a goose egg.

However, reinforcements will join the Chargers on the other side of their bye week, as they made one move that will put a huge grin on Herbert’s and LA supporters’ faces.

The Chargers make the choice to add a new kicker to their roster.

Dustin Hopkins, a former WFT kicker, was signed by the Chargers, while Tristan Vizcaino was dismissed.

Oh boy.

When people talk about the Chargers, one of the first things that comes of mind is the team’s apparent deficiencies at kicker. It’s been a disaster from Younghoe Koo to Nick Novak to Michael Badgely to Tristan Vizcaino.

Novak largely had success with the Jacksonville Jaguars, while Koo departed the Chargers and went on to become a Pro Bowl kicker with the Atlanta Falcons. Following Rodrigo Blankenship’s injury, Badgely joined the Indianapolis Colts.

In the offseason, Badgely and Vizcaino competed for the kicking job, with Vizcaino edging out the incumbent Badgely. Vizcaino’s reign didn’t last long, and he definitely didn’t help himself.

Dustin Hopkins, who was formerly with the Washington Football Team and parted ways with Vizcaino after just six weeks, has signed with the Chargers.

Hopkins will become the 11th Bolts kicker since 2017 when the #Chargers try their next PAT.

When Vizcaino earned the job, a slew of Chargers supporters cheered, but he went 10-of-15 on extra points, and Staley and general manager Tom Telesco had none of it.

Badgely’s problems surfaced again last season. He only missed three extra points this season, although he was 24-of-33 on field goals. Despite his troubles, Badgely’s previous head coach Anthony Lynn continued to throw him out there, knowing full well what would happen.

In 2021, he joined the Tennessee Titans’ roster, but he went 0-1 on field goals and 1-2 on extra points in only one game, prompting the team to release him.

Hopkins, in all honesty, has been a long time coming, and the hope is that he can be the person going forward.

HC #Chargers Tristan Vizcaino’s failed extra-point kicks are causing worry, according to Brandon Staley: “So much of it comes down to confidence, and I believe that’s where we’re at with him right now. It’s about building his self-assurance and rhythm.”

Staley has repeatedly stated the team’s belief in Vizcaino as the team’s kicker over the last several weeks. During game week, Staley had similar comments about the kicking position (h/t OC Register’s Gilbert Manzano).

“At that situation, we’re going to make sure we keep all of our choices open.” “However, we still have a lot of faith in Tristan.”

On the kicking situation, Brandon Staley

They are leaving all options open, according to Staley. Nonetheless, this came as a shock, particularly considering the Chargers’ executive staff had consistently stuck by its kickers despite bad results for years.

The missing additional points, on the other hand, are unforgivable. Staley has made the decision to go for it on 4th down a number of occasions and has been successful in doing so. Those choices might be linked to Lynn’s lack of kicking issues while wearing the headset.

The hasty decision to dismiss Vizcaino serves as a reminder of how important a head coach can be.

Justin Herbert, particularly from the kicking position, is deserving of better.

With a player like Herbert, surrounding him with plenty of quality should be a top goal. The Chargers accomplished exactly that in the offseason, bringing in a slew of offensive line talent.

After Hunter Henry got a huge contract with the New England Patriots, they added veteran tight end Jared Cook. However, having a dependable kicker is essential, something the Chargers have lacked in previous years.

Hopefully, the arrival of Hookins will relieve Herbert of some of his responsibilities, since he often has to go for it on 4th down owing to the danger of sending out the field goal unit. In his seven years in the league, the newest kicker in Los Angeles has a career field goal percentage of 163-194 and has missed 11 extra points.

The Chargers’ quarterback is enjoying an incredible season, and the club is right in the thick of the AFC West race, even more so now that Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are experiencing historic troubles.

While the kicker position is sometimes neglected, it is a huge problem for the Chargers.

Pro Football Reference provided the statistics.

‘I Don’t Think You’re Going to Find Too Many Better Than Him,’ Bill Belichick says of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
