Josh Sweat doesn’t have many gripes about the upcoming NFL season in 2021. The defensive end set career highs in sacks (7.5), quarterback hits (13), and combined tackles in his fourth season with the Philadelphia Eagles (45). For the first time in his brief career, he was named to the Pro Bowl.
Sweat, on the other hand, was unable to participate in Philadelphia’s playoff defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a “life-threatening condition.” Sweat discussed his health concern and recuperation before of the 2022 season.

When Sweat was ruled out of the Eagles’ wild-card game against the Buccaneers last year, fans were taken aback. It wasn’t, however, owing to a fluke accident sustained during practice. Sweat had a “emergency operation owing to the seriousness of the problem,” according to the Eagles, who classified the predicament as a “life-threatening crisis.”
Sweat disclosed this week that internal bleeding in his abdomen region lost him a chance to play against Tom Brady in the playoffs, but he did not offer many specifics at the time.
Sweat told The Philadelphia Inquirer on Tuesday, “It just came out of nowhere.” “I’m not sure how to do it.” There were no indications. It simply so occurred…. On the field, it didn’t happen. I was just relaxing at home. It has just occurred. When I rose up, I noticed that my abdomen had become heavy. Because one artery had opened up a little, the bleeding continued. They cauterized it and sealed it.”
Sweat, thankfully, healed in time to participate in the Pro Bowl a few weeks later, and he’ll be ready to start the 2022 season.

Sweat enjoyed his finest season as a player in 2021, and his inability to compete in the playoffs was heartbreaking. He’s focusing on having an even better year in 2022 now that he’s back to full health.
“I’m all right now.” He said, “We took care of the problem.” “I’m back to 100 percent [percentage].” “I’m ready to go back to work; there are no more difficulties.”
“Obviously, every year I want to have a better season than the one before,” he concluded. “However that is, I want to keep improving.” All I want to do now is keep becoming better. [At the Pro Bowl], I felt like the small man]. That is inspiration. It was fantastic to be there. I had the opportunity to chat with a number of [teammates] and learn about their perspectives. It was a fantastic adventure.”
Sweat will be hoping to help lead the Eagles to the playoffs for the second year in a row while also being able to play this season.
