During a recent interview with the Lakers, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas decided to give new Lakers Coach Luke Walton some free advice. Arenas is about to enter his 15th season out of the NBA, and he spoke to Walton about the difficulty of coaching a young team when you’re a veteran like him. Arenas says the Lakers—who fired Walton’s predecessor Mike Brown—are “the senior citizens discount team” while younger teams like the Spurs “rely on their athleticism and speed.”

As he does so often, Gilbert Arenas decided to troll the Los Angeles Lakers. He did so by pretending to be a journalist from an ESPN Magazine (he’s way too old to be an ESPN Magazine reporter) and asking Kobe Bryant if the Lakers would be the NBA’s “Senior Citizen Discount” team if they signed free-agent Rajon Rondo to a one-year contract. The Lakers responded by agreeing that the Clippers would be the “Senior Citizen Discount Team” if they signed Rondo.

The Los Angeles Lakers have significantly upgraded their team via free agency so far this summer, but their detractors have pointed out one major flaw: their age. The Lakers, headed by LeBron James, are one of the NBA’s oldest teams, but they still have the quality to compete for a title.

Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA great, had some jokes about the Lakers’ average age.

In free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers have resurrected an old squad.

The Lakers were an older team to begin with, since their greatest player, LeBron James, will be 37 in December, and Anthony Davis will be 28. They also possessed Marc Gasol (36) before trading for Russell Westbrook, who is 32 years old.

After acquiring Westbrook, the Lakers have acquired Carmelo Anthony, Trevor Ariza, Dwight Howard, Wayne Ellington, and Kent Bazemore, all of whom are 37 years old (32).

Malik Monk and Kendrick Nunn, both 26 years old, have just joined the Lakers (23). Talen Horton-Tucker (20) was also just re-signed by the club. However, the Lakers are the league’s oldest team due to the combined age of all of the players listed before. According to ESPN, their roster will have an average age of 31 years and 302 days (31.83) when the season starts.

LA’s roster was ridiculed by Gilbert Arenas.

Gilbert Arenas, a former Washington Wizards star, hasn’t played in the NBA since 2011-12, but he still has strong feelings about what’s going on in the league, and he couldn’t stop himself when it came to the Lakers.

Arenas recently shared a screenshot of a Bleacher Report tweet with the ages of all of the Lakers’ players on Instagram. He then went ahead and added a caption, and he didn’t hold back.

Arenas remarked, “My Lakers just become the senior citizens discount team.” “We’re the male equivalent of the [Splash Sisters] from San Diego. We’ll be performing #LoadManagement and #Age[Management] (100 emoji). This squad isn’t doing taco Tuesdays (no carbohydrates after 7 p.m.) this year, [LeBron James]. #LakerAdultLeagueTeam #2022LakerChip.”

The Splash Sisters are a women’s basketball team made up of ladies aged 80 and above.

The Lakers aren’t quite there yet, but they are assembling a squad that is ancient in basketball years, and Arenas is one of several who have cracked jokes about it.

However, when it comes to LeBron James, age is only a number.

LeBron James has taken down a tweet in which he supported the Lakers’ free-agent choices.

James couldn’t stay silent when everyone was discussing the ages of all of the Lakers’ players. He vented his dissatisfaction on Twitter.

According to the New York Post, James tweeted, “Keep talking about my team, our people ages, the way he plays, he remains hurt, we’re beyond our time in this league, etc etc etc.” “Please do me a favor!!!! Please, please, please!!! When it starts, keep the same narrative ENERGY! All I want is for you to do it. #ThankYou”

It’s unclear why James removed the post, but his annoyance is understandable. His club has the potential to be one of the greatest in the NBA.

Last season, the King averaged 25.0 points, 7.8 assists, and 7.7 rebounds, and Davis remains one of the greatest big players in the league (21.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in 2020-21). Westbrook was also as outstanding as ever last season, averaging 22.2 points, 11.7 assists, and 11.5 rebounds for the fourth time in his career.

Anthony, Ellington, Nunn, Ariza, and Monk are among the elite shooters that surround James, Davis, and Westbrook. This squad has the potential to be terrifying, despite their age.

Arenas, who seemed to be making a joke with his post, and others may have jokes about James and the Lakers. This veteran squad, on the other hand, has a potential to dominate the league’s younger players. They have a chance to win their second NBA title.
