New England Patriots tight end and Super Bowl LIII MVP, Tom Brady, took his job back with the Philadelphia Eagles after signing a contract to return. It was revealed that Olsen would have been in charge of broadcasting college games for Fox Sports while also coaching football at Florida State University instead of playing as he had hoped.
After years of speculation about whether or not he’d retire soon, Olsen finally made it clear on Twitter: “I’m gonna play my butt off this season.”
The “who is tom brady playing for” is a question that has been asked many times in the past. Greg Olsen finally commented on Tom Brady taking his job at Fox, a job Olsen actually doesn’t even officially have yet.
Greg Olsen had an outstanding 14-year NFL career. The New Jersey native was a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro pick, catching 742 receptions with the Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, and Seattle Seahawks, enough for seventh all-time among tight ends. He was also the first player in NFL history to have three straight 1,000-yard seasons at his position.
Olsen utilized his bye weeks to fill in as a color commentator for Fox Sports as his playing career came to an end, and he shifted to the post full-time after retiring after the 2020 season. And he’s done so well in that job that many anticipated he’d take over as No. 1 commentator from Troy Aikman, who departed Fox after two decades to take a big salary cut at ESPN to broadcast Monday Night Football.
Of course, Aikman will continue to call games with Joe Buck, who will now be replaced by Kevin Burkhardt on Fox’s No. 1 NFL crew.
Even though Olsen hasn’t signed a contract to formally replace Aikman and join Burkhardt on the A-team, it’s expected that he will. What is certain is that Olsen, or anybody else on the No. 1 Fox team for that matter, will not be there for long. Because that seat will be his as soon as Tom Brady retires, since Fox has already committed to the seven-time Super Bowl champion for ten years and $375 million.
And, despite the fact that he is aware of his short time, Olsen understands. After all, he’s not Tom Brady, even if he had a successful career.

Brady, who is entering his 23rd NFL season, has a few more awards on his record than Greg Olsen, including the aforementioned seven Super Bowl victories.
Brady has thrown for 84,520 yards and 624 touchdowns in 22 seasons with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both of these totals are the most in NFL history. That’s just throughout the regular season. He’s thrown for 13,049 yards and 86 touchdowns in 47 playoff games. Every single word in the phrase is an NFL record. He’s a five-time Super Bowl MVP, three-time NFL MVP, six-time All-Pro, and 15-time Pro Bowler.
Yes, he’s done some nefarious stuff.
So when Fox saw an opportunity to get the GOAT (stop pretending he isn’t), they jumped at it. And, as Olsen recently revealed on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take show, he understands.
“It was as you just stated when the news came in: If it had been someone else — like if I had been jumped by someone else, I would’ve wanted to burn the city down, right?” I would have been enraged, to say the least.
“But it’s like, ‘This hurts,’ when you miss out on Tom Brady.” At the very least, he isn’t taking the job right now; maybe I can spend my time in the sun and keep his seat warm till he arrives.’ But if you’re going to lose, you may as well lose to him.
“At the very least, I can live with the fact that Tom Brady was the only guy on the planet who beat me out.” That’s OK with me.”
Tom Brady is heading to Fox Sports, according to Greg Olsen.
Since a result, we’ll almost certainly see Olsen on the No. 1 Fox squad for at least a year, which would include Super Bowl 57, as Fox’s time in the network rotation is approaching. And there’s always the possibility that it may be lengthier if Brady chooses to keep adding to his record of achievements on the field beyond the 2022 season.
