The Dallas Cowboys will be facing the San Francisco 49ers in their Wild Card Round matchup on Sunday, but Michael Irvin is not confident and believes his team has a long way to go in order to compete against one of the top teams from this season.
As soon as he found out about how tough it would be for them, he started worrying what could happen if they lost.
The “49ers division” is the worst draw. The Cowboys will have to play against the defending champions and a team that has won 12 straight games.
The San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys share a long history together. The two legendary clubs will clash in the NFL Playoffs’ Wild Card Round in 2021. Although the Cowboys are the favorites, Hall of Famer Michael Irvin is wary of the matchup.
Irvin still has feelings for his old squad, but he understands it won’t be easy.
Michael Irvin believes the Cowboys will have a difficult challenge against the 49ers.

Michael Irvin played with the Dallas Cowboys throughout his entire 12-year NFL career. He knows his way around the company like the back of his hand. Irvin is a staunch supporter of Dallas regardless of the circumstances, although he may be a touch prejudiced at times. When it comes to the wild-card game against the San Francisco 49ers, he’s keeping it real.
The NFL Network analyst recently appeared on The Rich Eisen Show to preview the two teams’ impending game. Irvin acknowledged to being concerned about the Niners.
Eisen questioned the Hall of Famer whether the San Francisco 49ers were the club he dreaded facing. Irvin said, “Absolutely.”
“I was thinking, ‘Oh no, not the 49ers,’” he said. “This is the worst draw we’ve ever had.” Before they came through here, I wanted San Francisco to beat Green Bay or the Rams. Our defense is based on taking advantage of opportunities. Jimmy G is kept under lock and key by Kyle Shanahan. It makes me nervous. We witnessed how well Philadelphia ran the ball against Dallas. This is, without a doubt, the worst matchup.”
Irvin acknowledged 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel and stated why he may make the Cowboys’ defense’s life difficult.
He responded, “Don’t even bring up Deebo Samuel.” “As I said earlier this year, if Kyle Shanahan continued to utilize him, he could easily be in consideration for MVP.” This guy has MVP potential. What an incredible year he’s had. He’s a very exceptional artist. It’s been fascinating to observe.”
Michael Irvin isn’t going to make a public choice against Dallas. Despite this, he is anxious about how the club will do against the Niners.
Why does San Francisco have the ability to irritate Dallas?

The route to the playoffs for the San Francisco 49ers hasn’t been easy. Kyle Shanahan’s team concluded the 2021 season with a 10-7 record, good enough for a sixth-place finish in the NFC.
The Niners faced the Los Angeles Rams in the regular-season finale with their backs against the wall. The Rams were competing for the NFC West championship and needed a victory to secure a postseason place. The teams fought back and forth, but it was San Francisco who prevailed in overtime. One of the reasons why opponents should not ignore the 49ers in the playoffs is their resilience.
Naturally, there are still doubts about Jimmy Garoppolo’s ability to lead the Niners to victory in the Super Bowl. Shanahan is well aware that he isn’t anywhere close to becoming an outstanding quarterback. The head coach, as Michael Irvin indicated, is aware of Jimmy G’s talents and shortcomings. Shanahan strives to put him in the best possible position to succeed and make as few errors as possible.
Garoppolo’s ability to handle the football is simply one element of the winning formula. The 49ers must also maintain their dominance in the rushing game. San Francisco’s running attack is eighth in the NFL, averaging 127.4 yards per game.
The Niners are led by rookie running back Elijah Mitchell. In only 11 games, he carried for 963 yards and five touchdowns. Deebo Samuel also contributes significantly to the running game. This season, the Pro Bowl wideout had eight running touchdowns.
The 49ers must control the line of scrimmage and deliver the ball to their playmaking weapons early and frequently. San Francisco’s defense was also among the best in the league, spearheaded by Fred Warner and Nick Bosa. Although the defense isn’t as outstanding as the one that took the club to the Super Bowl in 2019, it will keep this team in games.
The Cowboys are going to score, so the 49ers’ offense will have to keep them off the field.
What the Cowboys can do to quiet the skeptics
LB for the Cowboys According to Micah Parsons, the 49ers offense enjoys playing “bully ball.” “I’m from Harrisburg, where bullies get bullied,” Parsons says. In every gym, there is a bully…. Someone will have to take a stance and fight at some time. “I’m never going to back down from a challenge.”

On the opposite side of the field will come a cocky Dallas Cowboys squad. Mike McCarthy’s team finished the regular season 12-5 and earned the NFC East title.
After a 6-10 season in 2020, Dallas has made a significant comeback. The return of quarterback Dak Prescott has resurrected this club, which had been in a funk since No. 4 was injured.
Despite a great season, it’s easy to distrust the Cowboys since they’ve often failed to live up to expectations. The 2021 squad, on the other hand, seems to have a distinct swagger. Much of this may be attributed to the rise of Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons.
During the regular season, Diggs had the most interceptions in the NFL. He’s a ball-hawk, despite taking much too many chances in coverage. His opportunistic nature opens up extra opportunities for the high-powered attack. Parsons has been a disaster waiting to happen. He’ll almost certainly win Defensive Rookie of the Year, and he also has a chance to win Defensive Player of the Year.
Dallas has benefited greatly from the improved confidence of the young players and the arrival of Dan Quinn as defensive coordinator. In 2020, this unit was terrible, but it rapidly improved to a top-10 unit.
The Cowboys have the best offense in the league, averaging 407 yards and 31.1 points per game. Prescott has a plethora of weapons, including Ezekiel Elliott, CeeDee Lamb, and Amari Cooper. They have the ability to score with anybody.
This is a quality football squad, but they must win the important games to put the skeptics to rest. There is no greater chance than facing the 49ers.
Pro Football Reference provided all stats.
The winner of the Cowboys-49ers game on Super Wild Card Weekend is expected to win the Super Bowl, according to history.
