When you think of the greatest athletes in history, who do you think of? Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods, or LeBron James? Not so fast—LeBron James is a very good basketball player, but he’s not the best in the world. Michael Jordan set the game on fire and shattered records, and Muhammad Ali was a legend long before he ever laced up a pair of boxing gloves. Tiger Woods was the most dominant golfer in the world for a very long time, and he’s still considered one of the best golfers ever. But if you want to talk about the greatest athletes in history, you have to look to some of the first humans to ever walk the planet.

The New York Yankees have had a very successful season. One of the more interesting developments was the acquisition of Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. While the Yankees are certainly not the first team to make an international signing a priority, they are one of the few teams to have already landed a high-profile pitcher.

In 2006, the Boston Red Sox were in first place in the AL East. Leading the league in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage – and with a great starting pitcher – the Red Sox looked like they were on their way to another championship. Then suddenly, things came to a screeching halt. The Red Sox were swept by the New York Yankees in a four-game series, dropping their record to 47-23. They lost their division lead by 1.5 games, and they were not being given much chance to make up that gap. But that didn’t stop the Red Sox from putting all their energy into the upcoming trade deadline.. Read more about magic johnson net worth and let us know what you think.

In the Larry Bird NBA era, player salaries were nowhere near what they are today. Still, the star attacker of the Boston Celtics made a lot of money. Over the course of his career, he has taken home $24 million in gross earnings, plus, in at least one case, another $20 million.

But how did Larry Legend pocket the money? During a game with the New York Knicks, Byrd accepted a bet with the opposing coach. Thanks to his marksmanship and a series of lucky circumstances, the attacker walked away with a win and some pocket change.

Larry Bird went from janitor to a $23 million salary in the NBA.

Once he stepped onto the NBA floor, Bird had no trouble establishing himself as a star player and began making good money. At one point, however, the attacker came close to taking a more modest job.

After high school, the attacker began his career at Indiana University. However, he did not feel comfortable on the Bloomington campus and returned to French Lick without playing a single game. There he began his life after basketball and got a job as a garbage collector.

Then fate intervened in the form of Bill Hodges, who convinced Byrd to go to Indiana State and give basketball another chance. The forward agreed and within a few years led the Sycamores to the 1979 NCAA title. Although they failed to become champions, Larry Ledgend became a true talent.

Even before the college campaign began, the Boston Celtics acquired Bird’s rights as the sixth pick in the 1978 NBA Draft. The striker, who turned professional in the 1979-80 season, quickly became important to the club again and had no trouble extracting large sums of money for his successes on the pitch. Larry Legend earned just over $24 million in gross wages during his time in Beantown.

The striker once got $20 from a New York Knicks coach by winning a bet on the field

While $24 million is a relatively small amount by modern NBA standards, it’s not a bad value for anyone. However, Larry Legend wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity to make some extra money.

For the game against the Knicks, Byrd and Danny Ainge made a pair of three-point shots. At one point, the New York coach made an offer to Larry Legend: He bet $20 on the fact that an attacker would fail to take a long shot during the game.

Although Byrd has the talent to win this bet easily, he still encountered a problem. Even the best shooter can’t hit the target while sitting on the bench.

We were down 20 points in the fourth quarter, Ange said on the Dan Patrick Show. Entrance to our bank. … The coach of the Knicks looks at me and says: Hey, get Larry’s attention. And he gives her a sign: You owe me 20 bucks, you never had a threesome. And Larry says: Damn, I can’t believe I forgot that.

Fortunately for Byrd, the Knicks closed the gap and the Celtics starters had to get back into the game. Of course, Byrd took advantage of the opportunity and scored a three-pointer to win the $20.

At this point in the game, when the game was almost over, Ange continued. I see it’s a 20 point lead. … He cared more about the $20 bet than he did about the game.

This was not the only time Larry Bird won a bet with hisshooting skills.

However, this episode wasn’t the only time Byrd used his shooting skills to make a few extra bucks. Another time, he took a reporter for $160.

As the Boston Globe podcast transcript explains, Dan Shaughnessy challenged the Celtics star to a free throw contest. Although Byrd injured his hand and put a bandage around it like a boxing glove, his pitching skills – and his ability to make money – were not affected.

He went 6 for 10 in the first round. I got 6 out of 10, so we’re even. In the second round, I took the ball away from him and he said: Oh, I see it now. And he did, Shaughnessy recalls. He made the correction and he knew it. And he did 8 or 9 out of 10. I take a step forward and see five dollar bills fly through the air every time I let go of my hand, and I gasp, and he beats me to $160. I believe it was 88-62 or something, but I owed him $160.

The next day, the employee paid. Byrd put his money in his athletic shoe and walked onto the field without missing a beat.

Thanks to Spotrac’s contract data, we know that Larry Legend received a salary of about $24 million from the Boston Celtics. But if nothing else, we can add $180 to that amount with two bets on the move.
