The Buccaneers have to be careful this upcoming weekend. Their opponent, the Rams, are coming off a big victory after defeating top-ranked Philadelphia Eagles last week. If they can pull it out and beat the Bucs, their win would propel them into first place of their division while also eliminating Tampa Bay from playoff contention

History Shows That Tom Brady's Revenge Game Against the Rams Could Be Disastrous for the Buccaneers

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are out for vengeance. The Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet again on Sunday, this time at Raymond James Stadium, after a Week 3 setback at SoFi Stadium.

Even though Brady dismisses the concept of vengeance, it must be on his mind, particularly considering the Rams are one of the league’s hottest teams. Furthermore, Brady has a poor track record in “vengeance” games, which might be a bad indicator for the Buccaneers’ bid for a second straight Super Bowl berth.

Tom Brady has a track record of failing in these scenarios.

Brady’s track record in such situations isn’t good. He’s just 5-6 in the playoffs against teams he defeated during the regular season and 30-5 against teams he hasn’t faced (h/t Greg Auman of The Athletic).

The Buccaneers meet the Rams for the second game this season, and that doesn’t bode well. But there’s one more fascinating thing to mention. After losing to the Rams during the regular season, Brady and the New England Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVI.

Brady also won a game with the New England Patriots against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were coached by Bruce Arians at the time. Yes, there are several facets to this.

Regardless, Brady has a poor track record in these circumstances, and with an NFC championship game spot on the line, it might tip the scales in the Rams’ favor.

Brady, on the other hand, argues that this is just another game.

The Buccaneers’ quarterback seems unconcerned about the many tales.

“I believe these games are completely independent of one other,” Tom Brady said of avenging defeats earlier in the season. The idea is that it doesn’t matter what occurred when we played (the Rams) in September…” Both squads, he claims, have evolved since then.

With all of the retribution speculation swirling about, Brady has, predictably, tuned it out.

Sure, discussing narratives is entertaining, and prior games versus the opponent are always instructive. Brady is true, though: both teams have improved since their previous meeting.

Unfortunately, Brady is without Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown, and the availability of Leonard Fournette has been a question mark all week. In addition, the Rams are without Robert Woods and DeSean Jackson, both of whom scored touchdowns in the first game.

They do, however, have Odell Beckham Jr., who has been spectacular and helped Cam Akers return to the field. Brady must be aware that Von Miller was absent for the Rams last time, so he understands this will be a difficult game (h/t Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk).

“It’s all about this game and what we’ve learnt from the last one.” Any time you get to know your opponent, I believe you have a better grasp of what they do well and what you wish you had done. But it’s a really skilled football club, and one of the best in the NFL – a fantastic offense, a great defense, well-coached players, and outstanding specialists. For us, it’s going to be a really tough game.”

Tom Brady on the Rams’ rematch

Brady makes an excellent point about studying about the opposition, and he has been doing so for quite some time. The rematch versus the Rams will be exciting, particularly with so much at stake, including a good motivation for Brady.

With everything on the line, can we really go against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers?

One recurrent theme this week has been the Rams’ recent performance and how it may be bad news for Brady’s Buccaneers. Furthermore, Ryan Jensen and Tristan Wirfs’ futures are uncertain. However, despite sustaining injuries against the Philadelphia Eagles, both of them are expected to participate.

Still, with so much on the line, can we afford to go against Brady? Despite his revenge game record, the 44-year-old is still one of the greatest in the NFL.

Brady’s 1-4 record against the New Orleans Saints after moving to Florida is one example. That one triumph? It was during the playoffs last year, when the Buccaneers were on their way to winning the Super Bowl.

Brady is the best there is, particularly with so much on the line. Sure, history suggests one thing, but don’t write Brady off just because of his track record.
