The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Carson Wentz, has been a revelation this year. He’s led the team to an NFC East divisional title and is on pace for over 4000 yards and 33 touchdowns. With such success, it’s no surprise that the Eagles are one of the hottest teams in football right now.

Allen Iverson recognizes exceptional point guard performance. He understands how to score from the point guard position when he sees it. AI was one of the finest in the world at generating shots from any spot on the court while also adding flair and playmaking to the mix. The Answer now has his eyes set on Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks, a young guard with similar abilities to himself.

Young, at a comparable height to Iverson, can do nearly everything Iverson did. Young is the full deal, according to the former Philadelphia 76ers forward.

Last season, Trae Young made a huge step forward.

After their selection day trade, Ice Trae will always be linked to Luka Doncic, but Young is forging his own route to the superstar tier.

Young came into the league with a reputation for being able to stretch the floor and assist, but at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, there were concerns about his ability to remain healthy. Since entering the NBA, the Oklahoma product has started every regular-season game.

Young’s shooting skill was also questioned, as was whether it would transfer to the league. Over his first three seasons, he shot 34.3 percent from distance, albeit at a high volume (7.1 attempts) and often from far, long range.

Trae, on the other hand, made a leap last season. For the first time in his career, he was selected an all-star and shown that he has the clutch gene during the playoffs. Young led Atlanta to the Eastern Conference Finals in his first playoff campaign, when they were defeated by Giannis Antetokounmpo and the NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks. In 16 postseason games, he averaged 28.8 points and 9.5 assists.

Iverson already views Young as a superstar.

Iverson gushed about Young’s game in an interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks:

“I don’t think there are any flaws.” Do you get what I’m saying? He’ll simply keep growing better and better, that’s all I know. So my only advice is to keep doing what you’re doing. I don’t think he has any faults in his game.

“Everything about his game appeals to me.”

Trae Young on Allen Iverson

“He’s a leader,” AI said of the burgeoning superstar’s impact on the Hawks’ locker room. And they pay attention to him. He’s as youthful as he looks.”

That’s a lot of praise coming from a four-time scoring champion and former MVP, but Iverson obviously believes in Young. In the former Sooner, he sees a reflection of himself: tiny and frail, yet talented, tough, and with a visible chip on his shoulder.

In 2021-22, Young and the Hawks will try to improve on last year’s playoff performance.

Atlanta is trying to resurrect a team that finished just a couple victories short of the NBA Finals last season. Young’s longest-serving teammate, forward John Collins, was re-signed to a max contract by the club. The Hawks’ top nine players in terms of minutes from 2020-21 are all back.

Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish, and De’Andre Hunter will play on the wings, while Clint Capela, Danilo Gallinari, and Onyeka Okongwu will play on the interior, perfectly complementing the Hawks’ franchise point guard.

Atlanta has the skill and experience to match, if not better, last year’s performance. Young should take another step forward this season, depending on his present trajectory.

One of the best guards of all time believes the 23-year-old is up to the challenge.
