I was always told to ‘be yourself,’ but I’ve recently found this advice to be hollow. I’m gay, and I don’t believe I should be criticized or ostracized because of it. My relationships and friendships have suffered because of this.

For whatever reason – maybe it’s because of the media’s tendency to sensationalize the issue, maybe it’s because of social anxiety, or maybe it’s just because I’m an introvert – I tend to avoid talking about how I look, how I dress, or how I act in public. Even in these posts, I have a hard time just flat-out saying that I think that people who are different are being ostracized, criticized, or marginalized for their differences.

People have different ways to express their opinions, values, and beliefs. Some people prefer to read blogs to communicate with others about their thoughts. Others prefer to engage in political discussions on message boards. Some people prefer to engage in conversations with others via their favorite social media forums. Some people prefer to engage in discussions with others via online publications. The point is that people are different. And that’s OK.. There aren’t many people in Bryson DeChambeau’s corner anymore.

In the past two months, the big-hitting American has lost his longtime caddy, attacked his own sponsor, and positioned himself as the PGA Tour’s greatest villain. He’s now routinely heckled by golf fans at tournaments and seems to have lost every ally he ever had.

In light of recent developments, one PGA Tour player, Rory McIlroy is a golfer from Northern Ireland., has chosen to support DeChambeau.

Bryson DeChambeau has had a difficult couple of months.

Being Bryson DeChambeau these days isn’t easy. DeChambeau may be able to smash a golf ball farther than any other player in professional golf ever, and he has two victories this season, but he is undoubtedly the most despised guy on the PGA Tour in 2021.

The iconic footage of Brooks Koepka rolling his eyes at DeChambeau initially emerged online at the PGA Championship in May. The duo’s rivalry has only gotten worse since then, and fans have obviously chosen sides.

Tim Tucker, DeChambeau’s longtime caddy, left his side on the eve of a PGA Tour tournament the following month. DeChambeau was chastised by his sponsor after blaming his Cobra driver for his poor performance at the Open Championship in July. A positive COVID-19 test therefore forced the bomber to withdraw from the Olympics. He subsequently confessed he hadn’t been vaccinated and had no intention of getting the vaccination, which enraged even more followers.

DeChambeau was ridiculed with “Brooksie” shouts at last weekend’s BMW Championship, as he has been at every stop for the previous four months. The PGA Tour stepped in and declared that any spectators who yelled “Brooksie” on the grounds would be expelled.

To say the least, DeChambeau has had a tumultuous few months, and he is losing more and more supporters by the day.

This year, just a few PGA Tour players have openly shown their support for DeChambeau. Many of his teammates have turned against him due to his poor performance and antics on and off the course, but Rory McIlroy has chosen to come out in favor of the controversial golfer.

I sympathize with him because I don’t believe that being different should result in you being shunned or chastised. And I believe we’ve all understood from the beginning that Bryson is unique and would not adapt to the expectations of others. He is a unique individual. He has the right to have his own ideas, as does everyone else.

Rory McIlroy

When speaking to the media, McIlroy has always been forthright, so he isn’t simply saying things to be polite.

McIlroy says DeChambeau isn’t completely blameless.

When speaking to reporters ahead of the TOUR Championship this weekend, McIlroy was unexpectedly sympathetic of DeChambeau, but he also acknowledged the 27-year-old isn’t blameless in all of this.

McIlroy said of DeChambeau, “There are definitely things that he has done in the past that have brought some of this stuff on himself.” “I’m not suggesting he’s entirely innocent in this. But, at the same time, I believe he has had a hard go of it recently, which is really very sad to watch because, deep down, I believe he is a good guy who just wants to be the greatest golfer he can be. And it seems like something new occurs every week… I believe he is attempting to improve and learn from his errors, and I believe everyone should give him the opportunity to do so.”

The Northern Irishman’s attitude is admirable, but good luck persuading DeChambeau’s numerous detractors to agree.
