The Rams were unable to land a big name pass rusher this offseason, but they did get a big raise for one of their rookies. Defensive back Jalen Ramsey signed a 5-year $103.5 million extension with $70 million in guaranteed money, making him the NFL’s highest paid defensive back. This is the Rams’ second-highest paid player, with the highest paid being Jared Goff, who’s $5 million per year contract will continue through the 2020 season.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Rams signed cornerback Aqib Talib to a one-year, $5 million deal, which is a reasonable deal for a player who will be 32 years old in March, but it was a hefty amount for Talib, who had only played for the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos in the last three years.
Los Angeles Rams star linebacker Jalen Ramsey may not agree with the idea that money is no object. Money is power in professional sports, and it has allowed teams like the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Dodgers to spend big and buy championships. Ramsey, who signed a five-year, $105 million contract through 2020, used more than $300,000 of his own money to pay for his new look.Jalen Ramsey pays $330,000 to go to #5
Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey will wear #5 in the 2021 NFL season. Jevone Moore/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images Jalen Ramsey wore the number 20 in his first five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams. The former fifth-round pick has become one of the best cornerbacks in the league under that number and has built up a large fan base in both cities. Those days, at least when he was number 20, are over. The two-time First-Team All-Pro cornerback moves up to No. 5 after the NFL relaxed its numbering rules. All skill players (all positions except offensive and defensive linemen) can join quarterbacks and specialists and wear single digit numbers. Since Ramsey will be wearing No. 5 in 2021, he had to take the remaining No. 2. 20 NFL jerseys buyout. The bad news is that this decision will cost him $330,000 of his own money, according to ProFootballTalk. Fortunately for Ramsey, he reworked his contract in March and converted $16 million of his salary into a bonus to avoid the cap. At the time of publication, none of the Rams players had moved to their No. 20.
Ramsey originally wanted number 2, that went to Robert Woods

The All-Pro cornerback initially wanted the No. 2 pick, which went to veteran Robert Woods. Woods would have gotten the number he wanted because of his advanced age, both in the NFL and with the Rams. Woods, who is entering his ninth season in the NFL, wore No. 2 when he played at Southern California in the early 2010s. Ramsey wore No. 8 when he played at Florida State in the mid-10s, but kicker Matt Gay made the number his own.
Rams should hope Ramsey remains same player with new number
If you’re looking for a favorite for the Super Bowl, check out the Los Angeles Rams. Ramsey returns for another season, and Aaron Donald remains one of the best defenders in the NFL at any position. In 2020, Donald averaged 13.5 sacks and earned his third NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. The Rams traded quarterbacks this season, sending former first-round pick Jared Goff to Detroit in exchange for Matthew Stafford. Whatever Ramsey does next season and probably beyond, he will wear the number 5. The four-time Pro Bowl winner turns 27 in October and is still playing at a very high level. Barring injury, Ramsey will likely be on the field against a #5 opponent in all three preseason games. For the Rams, it’s Saturday the 14th. August, against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Rams open the regular season on Sunday the 12th. September, at home against the Chicago Bears. Like Sportscasting on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter @sportscasting19 .
