Embiid is the only player in NBA history to start a season with five consecutive triple-doubles. However, his team’s record still reflects the pain of not having Ben Simmons on court. The 76ers have just four wins so far this season and their playoff aspirations are all but gone.

The “ben simmons trade warriors” is the headline of a recent article by ESPN. The article discusses how Joel Embiid’s MVP-level run does not fix the Philadelphia 76ers Ben Simmons issue.

Joel Embiid's MVP-Level Run Doesn't Fix the Philadelphia 76ers Ben Simmons Issue

Joel Embiid is better than ever in his sixth NBA season. The 27-year-old has been on a tear after recovering from a battle with coronavirus (COVID-19) in late November. Does this make it less urgent for the Philadelphia 76ers to resolve the Ben Simmons dispute before the NBA trade deadline on February 10?

Embiid believes so. He like the team’s current location. Why wouldn’t he do that? The Sixers are 2.5 games down in the Eastern Conference in what seems to be a six-team fight to the finish without Simmons, a three-time All-Star.

The great center is enjoying one of his finest seasons in his illustrious career. But, at the NBA trade deadline, are the 76ers good enough to stay put? That is a more difficult question to answer.

For the Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid is on fire.

Since his comeback on Nov. 27, Joel Embiid has appeared in 24 of the 76ers’ 25 games. During that time, the squad had a 16–9 record. The Sixers have gone 10–2 since Christmas.

Embiid averaged 30.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 33.4 minutes during his past 24 games. 51.2 percent /36.7 percent /82.8 percent are his shooting splits. That’s MVP-level performance.

The three-time All-NBA center has doubled down in the previous 12 games. Embiid has averaged 33.3 points on 56.8% shooting overall and 37.5 percent from outside the arc since December 26.

Inquire about his performance with the Orlando Magic. Embiid scored 50 points in 27 minutes on January 19. It’s the second-fewest minutes played in a 50-point game in the shot-clock era (1954–55), according to ESPN News Services. In October 2018, Klay Thompson scored 52 points in 26:33. Against the Magic, Embiid played 27:03 minutes.

For Philadelphia, the four-time All-Star is a game-changer. When Embiid plays, the Sixers are 23–10; when he doesn’t, they are 3–8.

The second element of the equation is the one that makes things difficult.

The 76ers can’t afford to be complacent because of Joel Embiid.

Joel Embiid is a tremendous player, but he’s also a delicate one. The superstar’s current 16-game winning run is his third-longest in his career. That isn’t even a quarter of a season. Embiid, on the other hand, is in A.C. Green iron-man territory.

His only longer streaks were 19 games in a row from February 22 to March 28, 2018, and a career-high 26 games in a row to begin the 2018–19 season.

So far, the No. 3 overall choice in the 2014 NBA Draft has appeared in 293 games. In that time, the Philadelphia 76ers have played 517 games. Since he missed the first two seasons due to a fractured foot, knee issues remain the main worry. He’s never missed less than 18 games in a season, and he’s only missed 13 so far this year.

Philadelphia, according to the Cameroonian, does not need to make any changes. According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, Embiid stated as much after the team’s victory against the Boston Celtics on Jan. 14.

“When I look at where we were when we got most of the team in the lineup, particularly me in the lineup,” Embiid said, “we were 21–9 (now 23–10).” “That’s not too shabby…. There is no pressing need to modify anything. “I believe we have all we need.”

To some extent, he is correct. The 76ers are great, but there’s a big stipulation: nothing goes wrong with Embiid. That is not a gamble in which to put a lot of money.

After Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers have had a protracted decline.

Three players on the Philadelphia 76ers’ roster have max contracts. Tobias Harris, in addition to Joel Embiid and Simmons, is the most paid player on the team.

Harris, who is in the third season of a five-year deal signed in 2019, misses Simmons much more than Embiid.

Despite playing 2.3 minutes longer each game, the 11-year veteran is averaging 18.2 points per game, down from 19.5 last season. Harris’ three-point shooting has all but vanished. He’s now hitting 31.3 percent of the time, down from 39.4 percent before. It’s his lowest record since 2013–14, and he’s significantly under his career average of 36.4 percent.

The Sixers don’t have an issue with spacing. Seth Curry has a 41.7 percent 3-point shooting percentage, Tyrese Maxey has a 40.2 percent mark, reserve Georges Niang has a 39.5 percent mark, and veteran Danny Green has a 38.1 percent mark.

None of those players, however, matched the characteristics of a top choice. Harris doesn’t seem to like the way he’s been playing this season.

Coach Doc Rivers’ squad is benefiting from playmaking by committee. Maxey leads the team in assists with 4.3 per game, although three players (including Embiid) average at least four per game, with Harris leading the way with 3.8. Despite this, the squad is lacking a full-time facilitator without Simmons.

The Philadelphia 76ers are led by Joel Embiid. They’ll go as far as he takes them in the end. However, it is erroneous to believe that the Simmons issue is unimportant. Standing pat at the NBA trade deadline, given the superstar big man’s injury history, is a huge risk.
