While I’m not in the habit of posting up all of my grocery shopping every week, when I do I don’t always do it in the most exciting way. I mean, I do the cart-shopping thing, throwing a bunch of stuff into my cart and then randomly grabbing anything that looks good, but it’s not something you really see. I’m a huge fan of Kurt Warner and his journey to the NFL Draft. I was on the edge of my seat when he nearly missed the draft because the University of Missouri football staff was having difficulty with his paperwork. (He used to be a student-athlete, but he had lettered there since his freshman year. The school later acknowledged his previous enrollment.) It was heart
Kurt Warner was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 1999 as the 199th pick in the NFL draft. He entered the league as one of the most highly touted quarterbacks in the history of the league. He was expected to be the Rams quarterback of the future. But, he never fulfilled the expectations of being a starter at the NFL level. He was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in 2004, and in 2006, he was a backup quarterback to Warner’s younger brother, Peyton before he retired.
The NFL’s entry draft is one of the most watched, followed and talked about sports events in the world. But it appears that for some players, the ordeal can be as grueling as it is for the rest of us. The story of Kurt Warner, former Green Bay Packers quarterback, is perhaps the most dramatic and shocking example of the draft, but hardly unique.
Even if you don’t know his background, Kurt Warner’s NFL career was impressive in and of itself. He played in three Super Bowls, winning one of them. Two dormant teams, the St. Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals, were turned around by him. But it’s where Warner came from before he made it to the NFL that really strikes out about him, not his on-field accomplishments. It’s such an incredible tale that it’s being turned into a Hollywood film.
Kurt Warner took an unexpected detour to work at a grocery store when he wasn’t selected straight out of college, unlike many other NFL players who went from high school to college to the pros. More on his incredible pre-NFL tale may be found here.
Kurt Warner was not selected by an NFL club at the start of his career.

Warner was a member of Northern Iowa’s football team in college. He was not selected by an NFL club despite his apparent ability. According to NFL.com, Warner’s lack of early success made him more approachable to the general public. That’s because he struggled to establish a position in the professional football world, while many NFL players get selected almost immediately:
“There aren’t many individuals who can relate to that specific professional path. Many more people can identify to my situation, at least in terms of it not always being simple and their being difficulties in most of our lives that we must occasionally battle through.”
Warner’s tale is unquestionably one that most people can connect to or comprehend – at least the portion where he suffered.
Warner’s amazing rags-to-riches tale will be featured in the upcoming film American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story, according to USA Today. Warner’s journey from grocery store clerk to NFL champion and Hall of Famer will be depicted in the film, which stars Zachary Levi.
Warner tried to earn a roster place with the Green Bay Packers after being undrafted, but the club released him. He returned home to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where he needed to make ends meet since no other teams had called. To do so, he went to work as a stocker at his local Hy-Vee supermarket. He also served as a graduate assistant for his previous squad at the University of Northern Iowa.
What have people thought of Kurt Warner’s latest biopic?
Warner has been a major supporter of the new picture, promoting it on his Twitter account. The film is set to debut in December 2021, however several social media users criticized it for its low production standards and corny storyline and visuals. One individual questioned whether the teaser was a “SNL spoof,” according to The Sporting News. Another viewpoint was expressed. “The Kurt Warner picture seems to have been shot within a fantastic video game from 2015.”
Because the film is based on Warner’s autobiography, it’s obvious that he was heavily involved in its creation. However, this does not guarantee that it will be a good film. Based on Warner’s memory, it’s certainly true, but a great film requires more than accuracy.
Regardless of how the movie ends out, Warner’s true tale is incredible. Warner has accomplished things few NFL quarterbacks have, including winning a Super Bowl and receiving a gold Hall of Fame jacket, while working at that Iowa grocery shop. Whether or whether his film is successful, NFL fans will remember his tale.
