The NBA’s MVP race has been one of the most intriguing in recent memory. The season, which is still going on, was heavily anticipated and there have been some spectacular performances from a variety of players all over the league. However, Luka Doncic took everything to another level with his performance for Real Madrid this summer at EuroLeague Finals where he led them to victory over Barcelona. He then signed with Dallas Mavericks who are currently playing in the Western Conference finals against reigning champions Golden State Warriors.

Luka Doncic, the 19-year old rookie for the Dallas Mavericks, has been labeled as a “young gun” by many. He’s a 6’8″ point guard who is currently averaging 18 points per game. In an interview with ESPN, he officially declared that the league no longer belongs to LeBron James and claimed that he was going to win multiple championships in his career. Read more in detail here: where is luka doncic from.

Luka Doncic Targeted LeBron James and Officially Declared the League No Longer Belongs to the King

The game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday had it all. Big leads were vanishing, and the fourth quarter was exhilarating. It featured two superstars — LeBron James and Luka Doncic — going head-to-head on a national platform and demonstrating their skills. And it saw one of those stars earn a hard-fought victory while also making a statement.

At Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Doncic and the Mavericks came out on top, beating the Lakers 109-104. The game marked the passing of a torch, even though the outcome was meaningful, especially for a depressed Lakers team. Luka exploited his victory against James to declare that he and the rest of the NBA’s youthful players had officially overtaken the King.

Several times in the fourth quarter, Luka Doncic took straight shots at LeBron James.

Dallas seemed to be on the verge of winning its fourth game in a row at halftime. LeBron James, on the other hand, had other ideas, scoring nine of his 26 points in the third quarter to turn a 15-point deficit into a two-point lead going into the fourth.

But it was there that fourth-year All-Star Luka Doncic stole the show from the Purple and Gold. And he did so by launching a direct attack on James.

With little under five minutes left, LeBron moved to Doncic at the top of the key, leading 101-100. After assessing his choices, the Slovenian chose to go left and fly by James for a six-foot fadeaway on the hoop’s side. With James on him again the following possession, Luka went right and floated the pass up to Dwight Powell, who hit the easy two.

That wasn’t the end of it. Another screen prompted LeBron to cover Luka with little over three minutes left. Doncic forced his way past his defender and nailed a floater over Talen Horton-extended Tucker’s arms with the 19-year veteran playing tight defense. Dallas took a 107-102 lead thanks to Luka’s touchdown, virtually destroying LA’s chances of a comeback.

With the win, the Mavericks improved to 37-25, enough for fifth place in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Lakers have dropped to a season-low 27-34, behind the Portland Trail Blazers by two games for a postseason berth.

LeBron James was reminded by Doncic’s fourth-quarter performance that the younger generation is taking control.

Last night, Luka Doncic:

25 PTS, 8 REB, and 5 AST

It’s the 121st time Doncic has had at least 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists in a game.

What the 37-year-old James is doing is quite astounding. At an age when many former players were far into retirement, the four-time MVP is averaging 28.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists.

However, when it comes to becoming the finest basketball player, the King must relinquish his throne.

There was a time when no one could get past James, a 6-foot-9, 250-pound powerhouse. Doncic accomplished it three times in a row on Tuesday. The same Doncic who, until lately, has battled with his weight and fitness.

Luka is, without a doubt, a superstar. However, he is one of several great players in the NBA who can now impose their will on James or anybody else. Take Giannis Antetokounmpo, who scored 44 points in his previous game against the Lakers while missing just three shots. Or Trae Young, who had 36 points in a game against the Lakers in January. Or even Ja Morant, who in a Laker defeat shortly before the new year matched LeBron’s 37 points with 41 of his own.

Those four players, as well as MVP frontrunners Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid, are all 20-year-olds who have either exceeded or will soon surpass James’ output. They’re also on better teams, since LeBron is no longer capable of overcome a team’s flaws and guiding them to a championship.

LeBron James is idolized by all of the NBA’s rising talents. Few, if any, fear him, as Doncic demonstrated to basketball fans around the nation.

Will Luka Doncic follow in the footsteps of LeBron James?

“If not LeBron, then who?” is the inevitable follow-up to everything that has gone before. Who will be the next superstar to become the NBA’s undisputed face?

Doncic is an excellent place to begin. At the age of 23, the Mavericks’ star has already won Rookie of the Year, made three All-Star appearances, and been named to two All-NBA teams. It also helps that since his arrival in Dallas as the third overall selection in 2018, he’s been compared to James.

Is it possible that it’s Jokic? Shaquille O’Neal was the last center to be seriously considered for MVP consideration, but the Joker’s MVP season in 2020-21 and current 2021-22 stats have proven tough to match. There’s a genuine debate to be had if he can lead the Denver Nuggets to serious championship contention. We’ll also discover what the future holds for Morant, who is 22 years old.

If there is one player who has already surpassed James and is a step ahead of Doncic, it is Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freak has two MVP honors, a Finals MVP, a Defensive Player of the Year award, and is in contention for his first scoring championship. Did we mention he’s just 27 years old?

Giannis, who just won a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks, is the new face of the NBA, closely followed by Doncic. Regardless of how you slice it, LeBron’s era as the NBA’s best player is slowly coming to an end.
