Golfers Matt Fitzpatrick and Patrick Reed are tied for the lead atop the leaderboard at Augusta National. This is a first in golf history, where two players share top spot on a major championship leaderboard going into Sunday.
The “at us open matt fitzpatrick wins his first major championship” is a story about the golfer, Matt Fitzpatrick. He won the richest prize in major championship history by taking home the U.S. Open Title at Pebble Beach on Sunday night.

Boy, wasn’t it fun? At The Country Club at Brookline, Matt Fitzpatrick overcame Will Zalatoris in a tight match between two players looking for their first PGA Tour triumphs. Fitzpatrick therefore won the 2022 U.S. Open.
In addition to winning his first major championship on Sunday, the Englishman also received the highest compensation in major championship history. How much money did Fitzpatrick get for winning the U.S. Open, and what was its record-breaking purse?

The U.S. Open in particular has seen an increase in PGA Tour prizes in recent years. Jon Rahm earned $2.25 million from his victory at Torrey Pines last year out of a total prize pool of $12.5 million, but he definitely wished he had held up on winning his first major.
This past weekend, the USGA raised the U.S. Open purse to a record $17.5 million. After securing his one-stroke victory on the tournament’s 72nd hole, Fitzpatrick received a sizable check for $3.15 million. It is the greatest payout for any major golf event in history, not only the U.S. Open.
For your first professional triumph in the US, it’s not a bad honor.

Fitzpatrick won the U.S. Open, earning the biggest payout of the weekend, but he wasn’t the only one who did well. In a tie for second place but losing by one stroke, Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler both got more over $1.5 million. After carding a Sunday-best 65 to climb the top, Hideki Matsuyama earned almost $1 million for his only fourth-place finish.
