Kevin Durant was not only a productive player on the court, but he also found time to build up his brand off of it. In this episode, we talk about how one of the most prolific scorers in history managed to get so much attention for himself and what lessons other athletes can learn from him.
Pound-for-Pound, probably the greatest player who ever played. Read more in detail here: pound-for pound meaning.
Allen Iverson’s name is linked with the term “fearless.” It has to be the way Iverson grew up in Hampton, Virginia. On the other hand, AI needed to be courageous on the court. Iverson had no business driving wildly into the woods at his stature, but he did. Repeatedly. In the process, he won the respect of players from all throughout the league, both past and present, including LeBron James, The King.
In reality, when James called AI the best “pound-for-pound” player in NBA history, he was inadvertently invoking the GOAT clause.
Allen Iverson is one of the greatest basketball players of all time, regardless of his stature.

One of the most comprehensive and scary offensive games in basketball history was performed by The Answer. He had the quickness, burst, speed, and skill.
The only thing he lacked was the appropriate size. But Iverson has never been stopped by much more significant things, so why should this?
Bubba Chuck entered the NBA as the No. 1 choice out of Georgetown in the 1996 draft. He promptly lit up the scoreboards all across the league, humiliating even the greatest defenders (including Michael Jordan, who went stumbling backward after an AI crossover).
On his path to winning the 1996-97 Rookie of the Year Award, Iverson started 74 of a possible 76 games and averaged 23.5 points per night straight away.
He was selected to 11 All-Star teams, seven All-NBA teams, and was crowned NBA MVP in 2000-01. He led the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals, averaging 31.1 points per game on 25.5 shots.
The former Hoya made it into the Hall of Fame, and his ability to do so at his size made him a basketball hero – even among LeBron’s peers.
Allen Iverson, according to LeBron, was “arguably the best player who ever played” at his stature.

It’s difficult to find a basketball fan who doesn’t like AI’s game, swagger, or both. LeBron James told ESPN in 2013:
“They claim he was six feet tall, but A.I. was more like five and a half.” Is it even OK to say 160 or 170 [pounds]? Do we really want to put that much faith in him? He also looked like a 6-8 two-guard. He was one of the most impressive finishes we’d ever seen. His heart could never be questioned. Ever. He gave it all he had. After Michael Jordan, A.I. was my second-favorite player growing up.”
Allen Iverson vs. LeBron James
LBJ went on to compliment the little scoring machine even more, comparing him to one of the all-time great pound-for-pound fighters.
“[Iverson] has a Floyd Mayweather-like presence about him. You could never doubt [Iverson’s] sincerity, his will to succeed. “A genuine savage.”
James draws parallels between Iverson and Floyd Mayweather.
But, in all seriousness, with all of these celebrity boxing fights going on right now, would anybody want to throw AI into the ring?
For a reason, the Hall of Famer was a four-time scoring champion.
Iverson was the only offensive player on the field. All of the blow-bys, crossovers, floaters, and step-backs were in his bag.
With 24,368 points, the Bethel native ranks 25th all-time in scoring. Chris Paul is the only other player on the NBA’s all-time scoring list who is under 6-foot. He’s in 45th place overall, with roughly 4,000 points less.
Iverson is the best pound-for-pound scorer in NBA history, according to statistics. For James, this places AI in the most esoteric of realms.
