The Los Angeles Lakers had high hopes for Russell Westbrook when he was acquired, believing he might be the missing piece in their championship jigsaw. Instead, he’s battled to maintain consistency, making him an easy target for criticism and blame for the Lakers’ continued woes.
Westbrook’s poor play has tainted not just his future in Los Angeles, but also his reputation. With social media criticism, the star point guard has reached a breaking point.

Westbrook excited at the chance to play for his local club and contend for an NBA championship.
He’s failed to find any kind of comfort or consistency as a result of the experience. Instead, he’s bungled his way through the campaign, with no signs of improvement in sight. As a result of all of this, he has taken a lot of heat for the Lakers’ near-complete elimination from the postseason race.
Westbrook’s performance has dwindled, averaging 18.2 points on 43.5 percent shooting from the field and a dismal 29.2 percent from three-point range this season. His flaws have also raised questions about whether he will stay with the squad beyond this summer.
The great guard has begun to move away from the outside noise by taking steps off the floor.

Westbrook has maintained a strong presence on numerous social media sites throughout the whole of his career.
The majority of his time is spent marketing and expanding his brand via sponsorship agreements, as well as sharing intimate moments with his family. The Lakers guard, however, has just made a significant shift, as his wife, Nina Westbrook, disclosed that her husband is no longer using social media.
“You’re my boo.” He won’t see this since he’s not on social media, but he’s incredible. Nina Westbrook wrote, “#appreciationpost.”
The 33-year-old has the right to do whatever he wants, but his choice to take a little break reveals a lot about where he’s at emotionally right now. Because of his continued difficulties to establish his footing, his time with the Lakers hasn’t gone as planned.
That alone has earned him a lot of flak, with his name being mentioned after every defeat and being blamed for the team’s failures. Westbrook is subjected to a barrage of criticism from numerous media outlets, reporters, and, most notably, fans.
With 6.8 million Twitter followers and 19.1 million Instagram followers, he has a large following. Westbrook is regarded as one of the most well-known athletes in the world. He’s probably heard and watched it all play out on social media over the previous two months.
All of this may be psychologically draining, particularly when you’re a member of one of the most popular sports teams in the world. Westbrook, on the other hand, will utilize the vacation to refocus and psychologically prepare for the last stretch of his regular season.
The Lakers are counting on their star point guard to deliver.

Despite his struggles, the Lakers are banking on Westbrook to play a key part in their postseason drive.
With Anthony Davis out for the next four to five weeks due to an injured ankle, the nine-time All-Star must step up as a very trustworthy backup to LeBron James. He’ll have more leeway to take on a larger offensive effort, relieving some of the pressure on James to lead the charge.
Westbrook’s time in Los Angeles may be limited, but he stands to benefit greatly from his performance in the next 20 games of the regular season. His reputation has taken a hit, but he has a chance to redeem himself if he performs well while helping his team reach the playoffs.
Westbrook may not have control over his Lakers’ future, but he can help them end the season well.
