The NBA is in the midst of a fascinating season. It’s been filled with thrilling games, memorable moments and tension like we haven’t seen since Michael Jordan retired nearly 20 years ago.
The New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox, 4-3. The final score may seem disheartening for fans of the team with a preternatural fan base and history to rival any other in professional sports. But there’s no arguing that it was one heck of an exciting game at times! The “find song by lyrics” is a game that can be played with 2-4 players. The goal of the game is to make your opponent say the word in question.
Frank Vogel finally shook things up after six games of poor basketball.
The head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers made a minor change to his starting lineup against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, replacing center DeAndre Jordan with guard Avery Bradley. The starting lineup, which included Anthony Davis at the 5, defeated Houston 95-85.
While many have praised Vogel’s small-ball lineup, it is in direct contrast to former All-Star Gilbert Arenas’ preferred starting lineup for the Purple and Gold.
The Los Angeles Lakers have a habit of starting with a huge lineup.

This is the first game in which AD will start in the number five position.

The Lakers place a premium on having an impact center, which should come as no surprise. Who else can boast of having worked with Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Shaquille O’Neal during the course of their franchise’s history?
LA’s most notable starting lineup last season included AD at the 4 and Marc Gasol at the 5. They started 20 of the 72 regular-season games, together with LeBron James and the departing guards Dennis Schroder and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Gasol was paired by 6-foot-10 forwards Kyle Kuzma and Markieff Morris in Vogel’s second-most favorite lineup, which was devoid of Davis and James.
The Lakers only had two games this season, including the playoffs, in which they didn’t start a true center. Jordan started each of LA’s first six games in 2021-22, continuing the streak. The switch to Bradley, on the other hand, seemed to have a favorable effect.
The Lakers kept the Rockets to 85 points with three guards joining superstars LeBron and AD. With Friday’s victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers, LA has allowed less than 115 points for the second consecutive game and the first time under 100. Jordan played just 17 minutes for the club, while backup center Dwight Howard sat out due to a stiff neck.
Gilbert Arenas wants the Lakers to open with a big lineup.

Arenas reviewed the Purple and Gold on his program No Chill with Gilbert Arenas a few days after the Lakers lost their season opener to the Golden State Warriors. Surprisingly, the 6-foot-4 former guard took a stand on who should start for Los Angeles.
Arenas added, “Sometimes you simply have to do s*** to see what the other team is going to do.” “So I’d start with DeAndre Jordan at 5, Dwight at 4, Anthony Davis at 3, LeBron at 1, and Carmelo [Anthony] at 2.”
The 6-foot-7 Anthony would be the shortest player in Arenas’ predicted lineup, followed by the 6-9 James. Davis and Howard are each 6-10, while Jordan is the tallest of the bunch at 6-11.
“How are you going to handle it?” Arenas went on. “You won’t be shooting threes since everyone is 6-8 and above.” Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan are back there, so you won’t be able to get to the hoop. So I’m not concerned about defense or anything. I’m simply curious to see what you’re going to do. … You have to give them time to acclimatize to you.”
Should the Lakers stick with a smaller starting lineup?
On Sunday, the Lakers were successful on defense with a smaller group. However, they scored 95 points on 40.6 percent shooting, their lowest offensive performance of the season. Even without a real center on the court, they shot only 29.0 percent from outside the arc, a percentage that you’d expect to see increase.
It’s worth remembering that the person with whom you begin a game may be quite different from the one with whom you end it. Jordan has started all but one game this season, although he only plays 14.0 minutes per game on average. Howard is also averaging just 15.2 minutes per game when he comes off the bench. So Vogel isn’t keeping his big men on the floor for 35 minutes every night.
Despite this, neither Jordan nor Howard has established themselves as starter-caliber players this season. The elderly veterans have all lost a stride, which leaves them behind a Los Angeles Lakers club that is trying to catch up. Starting either seems like an unnecessary step for Vogel to take, even if it is just for a few minutes early on. Arenas’ suggestion to start both of them, even if just for a few minutes, is ludicrous.
