Joe Burrow was a highly touted quarterback prospect that many believed would be the next big thing in Cincinnati. They took him with the third pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, but he has yet to make his debut due to their decision to bench AJ McCarron for Andy Dalton. The Bengals are now paying the price for their mistake as they are currently 4-7 and have lost four straight games.

Joe Burrow is a quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals. He was drafted in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft. The Bengals are punishing him due to their horrible unwillingness to learn from their costly mistake. Read more in detail here: joe burrow injury.

Due to a torn ACL sustained in Week 11 versus the Washington Football Team, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s first season was cut short.

After completely recovering, the young quarterback returned to the field for the 2021 NFL season. The Bengals, on the other hand, are playing with fire because they refuse to learn from their mistakes.

Joe Burrow’s first season with the Bengals revisited

In 2019, Joe Burrow had one of the most remarkable single seasons by a college quarterback. While completing 76.3 percent of his throws, the LSU graduate passed for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns. He only threw six interceptions all year. Burrow guided the Tigers to a comfortable national title win.

Burrow was the first overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bengals. He was stepping into the footsteps of Carson Palmer and Andy Dalton, who had previously held the position for 15 years.

No one anticipated Cincinnati to be a contender while playing in the difficult AFC North. The Bengals’ fans, on the other hand, were hoping for brighter days ahead.

As a rookie, the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner showed glimpses of his talent. Given the hand he was dealt, he made the most of his chances. In 2020, Burrow passed for 2,688 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He received an 89.8 percent passing grade.

There were more lows than highs for the Bengals with Burrow at quarterback. The offensive line was a complete disaster. Throughout the season, the offensive struggled due to a lack of reliable protection. When their young quarterback suffered a season-ending injury, the problem eventually surfaced.

On the offensive line, the Bengals have a lot of problems.

After losing their franchise quarterback to a horrific knee injury, you’d think the Bengals would do all they could to improve their offensive line.

After leaving the club before the 2020 season, Cincinnati rehired offensive line coach Frank Pollack. With Pollack at the lead, the squad had a lot of success up front.

In 2020, Jonah Williams was the Bengals’ top offensive tackle. His 70.1 Pro Football Focus grade was second only to Mekhi Becton among the six qualifying rookie or second-year left tackles.

Riley Reiff, a former Vikings offensive lineman, was brought in to replace Bobby Hart by the executive management. During the 2020 season, Bobby Hart looked terrible on many occasions. The guard positions are manned by Quinton Spain and Xavier Su’a-Filo, and there were great expectations for them going into 2021.

Trey Hopkins has been the team’s starting center for the last two seasons and has mostly performed well. The Bengals offensive line in 2021 is expected to be a major improvement over the 2020 edition.

The game, however, is not played on paper. Throughout the first two weeks of the 2021 season, many of the problems that plagued Cincinnati in 2020 have resurfaced.

To be successful, Joe Burrow needs protection.

In only two games, Joe Burrow has already been sacked nine times. He’s also suffered a slew of additional blows. That’s inexcusable, particularly considering how the 2020 season finished.

The Bengals were chastised for selecting wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase over an outstanding offensive lineman like Penei Sewell in the first round. Chase’s early results were mixed, but he has performed well throughout the regular season.

Despite this, wide receiver wasn’t the Bengals’ most pressing need. It was, and still is, the offensive line.

Even with the offensive line adjustments, the Bengals are still fighting an uphill struggle. Coach Zac Taylor accepted part of the blame for the team’s poor performance thus far this season. “You don’t want to make that excuse as a coach,” Taylor told The Athletic. “We have to enhance it, and we have to do it right now.”

The Bengals used their first-round selection in 2020 to invest in their franchise quarterback, but they decided that surrounding him with weapons was more essential than protecting him.

Joe Burrow will take an insane amount of hits in 2021 if things continue in this way. There’s a limit to how much punishment he can endure.
