Atlanta Falcons fans, brace yourself for a wave of frustration. The Falcons’ franchise is in a free fall, and fans feel like they can’t do anything about it. The team’s recent loss to the New Orleans Saints and their collapse in the second half of the NFC Championship game to the Philadelphia Eagles was devastating to Atlanta Falcons fans. The Falcons’ situation has a lot of Falcons fans asking themselves how this could happen to their team, and wondering how this low point will affect them and the team in the future. This is one reason why the Atlanta Falcons’ collapse is even more hurtful than it should be to Falcons fans. Falcons fans have been experiencing the following low points for the past year-and-a-half: A

The Atlanta Falcons, not Atlanta United, became the first NFL franchise to make a Super Bowl appearance after building a stadium in the middle of the city. They then proceeded to lose Super Bowl LI to the New England Patriots by a score of 34-28, despite getting up by a score of 21-0. Why did this happen? In a word, arrogance. The Atlanta Falcons have a revenue of over $200 million, yet they still forced the city to pay for a new stadium. The Falcons are most likely the most hated team in sports, and that is because of the way they ran their franchise.

The National Football League has become an empire, and one of its richest empires, at that, as it has grown to be one of the world’s most popular sports, if not the most popular. However, that doesn’t mean that every team within it is constantly among the league’s elite.

Did the Atlanta Falcons make the right choice by selecting Kyle Pitts in the first round? Or should the franchise go in a different direction in the 2021 NFL Draft?

For some Falcons fans, it made sense to add the most promising tight end of all time to Matt Ryan’s offense. But for iconic rapper Bow Wow, his favorite team made the unforgivable mistake of not paying attention to the most important position in the sport.

And while Pitts could become a permanent All-Pro, the question is whether general manager Terry Fontenot will retain Ryan for the foreseeable future.

Atlanta surprisingly picked a tight end instead of a quarterback as the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Falcons entered the 2021 NFL Draft with the opportunity to upgrade at the most important position in the sport. With Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson and Trey Lance not selected, they had a monumental decision to make when it came to voting. But in the end, Atlanta did not choose Ryan’s potential heir apparent. Instead, the team tried to help its longtime leader by taking the best non-quarterback on the squad.

Not surprisingly, the Falcons used the fourth pick on Pitts. The athletic, long-armed tight end at 6-foot-7 and heavy build dominated the SEC defense during his three-year career with the Florida Gators. With his playmaking ability in 2019, Pitts increased his draft stock significantly and had one of the most impressive seasons for a player in college football history. Kyle Trask’s top target has 43 catches for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns in just eight games.

Given Pitts rare combination of size and speed (he ran a 4.44 40 yard dash at his Pro Day), he deserved to be picked in the top-five. And as long as he’s healthy, the 2020 John Mackie Award winner will give NFL defenders nightmares. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the Falcons made a wise decision with their highest selection since 2008.

A prominent Falcons fan lashed out at the team for the way it handled the most important decision in the club’s history.

Bow Wow blames Falcons mistake that changed franchise

It’s been a tough few years for Falcons fans.

First, the team suffered a historic loss against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51. Since then, the Falcons have fallen further and further behind in the NFC South. They fired their head coach and general manager and parted ways with legendary wideout Julio Jones.

One of the team’s biggest fans, iconic rapper Bow Wow, thinks the franchise deserves to be criticized for what happened during the 2021 NFL Draft. At least Atlanta had a chance to secure a future quarterback. But instead of making Justin Fields Ryan’s successor, management rejected the former Ohio State star.

Don’t talk to me about hawks! Yeah, I’m rattling! We missed the Super Bowl! Then we’re not signing Justin Fields. WHO CAN’T GET A MAN TO SIGN JUSTIN FIELDS!!! Do you think we want to see Matt Ryan stinking up the dome again? It’s over. Bow Wow has of 3. July tweeted.

While he’s not paid to scout players, even a well-known performer can understand that Ryan doesn’t have what it takes to lead the Falcons to a Super Bowl title. Of course, the veteran quarterback brings experience and leadership. But should you be impressed by a signal-caller who has been an impact player since 2018 at 18-29? Does Atlanta really think a 36-year-old quarterback with limited mobility has more long-term value than Fields, who is above average? Ultimately, giving up a potential star quarterback seems like a big mistake for a franchise that has won four playoff games since Ryan joined the organization as No. 3 in 2008.

What does the future hold for Matt Ryan and the Falcons?

As angry as Bow Wow is about the Falcons’ decision to replace Fields with Pitts, he has no choice but to accept the reality of the situation. For now, Atlanta is trying to win with Ryan, whose contract runs through 2023. And with a cap hit of $40.5 million for 2022, it looks like he’ll stay in Atlanta for at least two more seasons.

So what can Falcons fans expect in 2021?

On paper, the bottom of the NFC South doesn’t look like they’re capable of making it to the postseason. In fact, it’s hard to get excited about a team that doesn’t have a lot of young, solid, high-level players.

Is anyone afraid of the Mike Davis and Cordarrelle Patterson tandem?

Probably not.

Kelvin Ridley has Pro Bowl abilities, but the rest of Atlanta’s receivers don’t inspire confidence in the passing game.

Even if Ryan puts in another good performance, the chances of him getting his first Super Bowl ring are slimmer than ever. Unfortunately for the Falcons, who have yet to choose his potential successor, their chances of winning the Lombardi Trophy will not be slim.
