Graham Gano of the New York Giants is a powerful kicker, but it’s second-string kicker Ryan Santoso who is getting all the attention in the Meadowlands and from NFL clubs. He’s also giving Dave Gettleman, the general manager, some choices.
Nobody is going to argue that a placekicker might spark a trade market bidding war. Santoso, on the other hand, seems to be attracting a lot of attention. Perhaps the Giants can take advantage of the high desire for the rookie kicker and receive something in return.

In his debut season with the Giants, Graham Gano was more than spectacular. In fact, he had a better season than any other NFL kicker.
Gano connected on 31 of his 32 tries, including 5-for-6 from 50 yards and beyond. Last season, he placed third among kickers with a 96.875 percent field goal percentage, which is the 14th-best in NFL history. The former Pro Bowler has a lot of talent. He’s also obstructing the way of another great Giants kicker.
Ryan Santoso has had an unusual professional path. He started his collegiate career as a placekicker at Minnesota before switching to punting. With the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans, Santoso hardly had a cup of coffee. The Giants, on the other hand, scooped him up last autumn and have stuck to him ever since.
Santoso seems to be popular in New York, but he has no place on the squad. Santoso may be traded by the Giants, especially because he is attracting attention from other NFL teams.
Santoso is a genuine trading chip.

Kickers aren’t very valuable on the trading market. Even yet, if the Giants decide to sell Santoso, they may be able to receive a good return.
Santoso is attracting “substantial trade interest,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who also said that “teams have been calling” about the former Golden Gophers kicker. Santoso, according to Rapoport, may be traded as the season approaches.
The Giants’ next preseason game, interestingly enough, is against a club that may be interested in Santoso: the New England Patriots. The Patriots haven’t had a reliable kicker in recent years and are in the midst of their own positional struggle this summer.
Another club interested in Santoso might be the New York Jets. The Jets just released Chris Naggar and seem to be considering Matt Ammendola for the position, but management may believe Santoso is a better fit.
In any event, it seems that Dave Gettleman has a number of potential bidders with whom to negotiate and attempt to locate a new home for Santoso.

In the NFL, deals for kickers are uncommon. However, there is a recent example that serves as a good benchmark for a potential Santoso trade.
Prior to the 2019 season, the Minnesota Vikings traded a 2020 fifth-round selection to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Kaare Vedvik. It was an unexpected decision for the Vikings, and one that backfired badly when they waived Vedvik in early September. Nonetheless, Baltimore’s ability to get future draft compensation in return for a kicker shows that the Giants can likely receive a good deal for Santoso.
Given that Santoso seems to have a large market, Gettleman is likely to wait and see what the maximum price clubs are prepared to pay for him.
