The Eagles’ defense was so dominant that it forced the Falcons into a turnover on their first possession, and they never recovered. It was a huge upset for the Eagles, who came in as an underdog to win their first game of the season.

The eagles rb room is a position group that has been the key to the Philadelphia Eagles’ success this season. The team’s running backs have been able to make big plays and help the offense move up and down the field.

In their Week 1 game with the Atlanta Falcons, the Philadelphia Eagles were considered underdogs.

The Eagles are no strangers to being seen as outsiders. They weren’t favored in any of their three postseason games during their 2017 Super Bowl-winning season, if you recall. This year’s squad, on the other hand, had a distinct personality.

Doug Pederson has been dismissed as the head coach of the New York Jets. Carson Wentz was dealt. The Eagles did not sign any high-profile free players, and their new head coach (Nick Sirianni) had never directed a play in an NFL game. When you add in the fact that it was Jalen Hurts’ first year as a full-time starter in the NFL, most analysts predicted a dreadful Week 1 for the Eagles.

That, however, was not the case.

The Philadelphia Eagles have long placed a premium on the trenches.

The significance of the “trenches” has been stressed for as long as football has existed. In the NFL, having the largest, strongest, and meanest offensive and defensive linemen has nearly always resulted in victories.

Howie Roseman, the general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles, lives and dies by this ideology. He favors offensive and defensive linemen in the draft, and he never shies away from giving out a big deal to a standout trench player.

Roseman signed defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a $39 million contract in 2020 and left tackle Jordan Mailata to a $64 million contract only days before the start of the 2021 season. Roseman is a huge fan of the big guys on the front row.

With all of this in mind, it was the Eagles’ unwavering faith in their offensive line that enabled them to cruise to a 32-6 victory against Atlanta. The Falcons’ offensive linemen were just unbeatable.

The line of scrimmage was controlled by Philadelphia.

On Sunday, the Falcons were completely destroyed at the line of scrimmage. Six TFLs and three sacks were surrendered by the Atlanta offensive line. While the Falcons’ running backs struggled to find open ground, Matt Ryan spent the whole of the second half laying on his back.

The previously stated Hargrave, in particular, had a strong performance. Two of the Eagles’ three sacks came from him.

Philadelphia’s offensive line, on the other hand, only allowed one sack. Hurts remained erect in the pocket, moving easily while looking downfield.

Despite all of Philly’s skeptics going into the Week 1 game, the Eagles came out on top with a comfortable win. Winning the trench fight is nearly always a formula for great success.

What might the Philadelphia Eagles anticipate in the future?

Yesterday, the Falcons offensive and defensive lines did not belong on the same field as the Eagles.

Overmatched in the trenches, you won’t win many – if any – football games.

It’s uncertain how long Philadelphia will be able to maintain this level of success. Atlanta is a bad football team, and Hurts has yet to establish himself. In reality, during Week 1, the majority of his pass attempts were short-to-intermediate. The most successful NFL teams need a quarterback who can regularly connect downfield.

The team’s excellent line play, on the other hand, will undoubtedly make things simpler for the Eagles. Hurts will have plenty of time to execute those long throws, while the defensive line will make opposing quarterbacks uncomfortable.

Even if the Eagles aren’t viable contenders in 2021, they’ve already delivered a strong message to the rest of the league. Having excellent linemen pays off.
