The Washington Wizards have been in pursuit of a veteran-caliber player to help them make another playoff push this season, and after the Miami Heat traded for Bradley Beal over the summer, he seems like an ideal candidate. Unfortunately for both teams’ fans, trade talks between their organizations have stalled. It remains unclear whether or not either team will try to move out their respective star players before next year’s deadline but one thing is certain: Tyler Herro would be the undeniable winner of a Miami Heat-Bradley Beal trade.

For what feels like an eternity, Bradley Beal has been the subject of trade speculations. The Washington Wizards player is in great demand, and the newest rumor has him heading to South Beach to join the Miami Heat, where his abilities (never grow old).
Congratulations, if it comes to fruition. Herro, Tyler.
The NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year favorite has improved offensively across the board this season.
If he’s part of the Wizards’ return to D.C., which is a reasonable assumption, he’ll be a starter and likely the team’s top offensive option right away.
That may seem like a large step for the Greenfield, Wisconsin native, but a closer look at his 2021-22 season reveals he’s ready for a bigger role in the NBA.
There have been rumors of a Bradley Beal-Miami Heat deal.
Beal is eligible for, and ready to sign, a five-year, $245.6 million contract with the Wizards, according to his own account.
The 28-year-old has expressed “excitement” about the new-look Wiz, which features Kristaps Porzingis following a deadline-day deal with the Dallas Mavericks, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Rui Hachimura, Daniel Gafford, and Corey Kispert are among Washington’s still-young, effective players.
The Heat, on the other hand, “are considered as a viable contender” for Beal if he chooses to leave the nation’s capital, according to Shams.
With a veteran-laden roster that features Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler, as well as still-rising youngster Bam Adebayo, Miami is equipped to win now. The Heat’s main major flaw is the lack of a scoring threat. As a result, Beal is interested.
Miami, on the other hand, is maxed out, so bringing Beal in this summer would involve a sign-and-trade transaction. Herro, Max Strus, and Duncan Robinson are the team’s most appealing trade pieces outside of the Big Three.
The Wizards may be interested in a few additional Heat players, but Herro would be the focal point of any deal.
And the 22-year-old is eager to go the next step and establish himself as a franchise offensive focal point.
The deal’s greatest winner would be Tyler Herro.

Herro would benefit from playing with the Wizards rather of being bubble-wrapped in the “Heat Culture” with Butler, Lowry, and Adebayo.
But he’s shown this season that if given the chance, he can lead an attack.
Herro is averaging 21.1 points in 32.7 minutes per game, which is a career best. He’s shooting 44.6 percent on 17.3 field-goal attempts, which is a career best.
He’s also hitting 39.4 percent on 6.8 three-point attempts, which is a career best. He’s hitting 87.1 percent from the free throw line on 3.5 attempts per game, which is a career best.
Is there a trend here?
Perhaps more crucially, the 6-foot-5 guard is averaging (again) 3.8 assists per game, which is a career best. He’s showed glimpses of playmaking ability in the past, but never consistently.
If you put him on a new club where he can lead an offense, his assist totals will skyrocket.
Let’s compare Herro’s per-40 minute figures this season to Beal’s per-40 minute numbers in 2020-21, according to NBA.com:
- Herro had 25.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists on 44/39/87 shooting. 113.1 offensive rating, 108.3 defensive rating, 4.8 net rating, 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio
- Beal (2020-21): 35.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 7.4 assists on a 49/35/89 shooting split. 107.1 offensive rating, 110.5 defensive rating, -3.5 net rating, 1.42 assist-to-turnover ratio
In most categories, Beal, as the focal point of the Wizards’ offense, has a modest advantage. However, it’s worth noting that he only appeared in 60 games (Herro has 58 as of March 22) and averaged more over three minutes each night.
It’s also worth noting that Beal shared the court alongside Russell Westbrook, Deni Avdija, and Davis Bertans. Herro will be paired with Butler, Lowry, and Adebayo.
It’s not impossible to see Herro filling Beal’s position as Washington’s No. 1 offensive option if their roles were reversed.
For both parties, this would be an interesting exchange.

Brad having the chance to play a more secondary (or tertiary) role, regardless of who else winds up in the transaction, would be intriguing. The Florida product is a better fit for that position in the lineup.
Herro’s performance away from the Heat values would also be intriguing to see.
What impact would it have on the fortunes of both franchises? How much better would Beal make Miami even if he cost them Herro and other rotation players?
What would happen if the Wizards got their shiny new gadget on the same timetable as the rest of the team’s greatest players? Gafford is 23, Kispert is 23, Hachimura is 24, and Kuzma is 26 years old.
Even Porzingis is still just 26 years old.
It wouldn’t be a game-changing move on the magnitude of the Ben Simmons-James Harden deal, but it would be close.
It’s a lot of fun to imagine how all of this might play out.
Herro, on the other hand, would command his own squad and offensive. Even though he’s just 22 and in his third NBA season, it’s time to give him them and let him run.
