During the early stages of his MLB career with the Toronto Blue Jays, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has lived up to the expectations and then some.
He’s off to another fast start after a season in which he finished second to Shohei Ohtani in the American League MVP voting while slashing.313/.401/.601 with an MLB-high 48 homers. He’s hitting.302 with a.674 slugging percentage and leading the AL in home runs with five, three of which came in a spectacular single-game performance against the New York Yankees.
But, in terms of his financial future, what does all of this mean?
To avoid arbitration, Guerrero and the Blue Jays agreed to a one-year, $7.9 million agreement in the summer, and a long-term extension is expected soon. Those negotiations won’t happen until after the 2022 season, particularly considering the 23-year-old has three more years of arbitration eligibility and isn’t slated to hit free agency until the end of the 2025 season, but working out figures of this size is crucial even at this early stage.
The latest episode of Baseball 360, hosted by Mike Calendrillo of Sportscasting, delves into all of this and more, including power rankings for every MLB team, from the lowly Cincinnati Reds, who can’t even keep games to one-run margins, to the powerhouse squads like the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, and, of course, Guerrero’s Jays.
