After the first two majors of the 2021 golf season, the British Open is still a ways away, and there’s not much to go on as far as predictions go. The players are struggling with the course right now, with the last week between the Masters and The Open being played on an old, tricky course layout that is just as hard as Augusta and Pebble Beach. But as the event gets closer, the golfers will be practicing on a new course layout, which will be different from what they saw before, and there’s no way to know if it will be good or bad, easy or difficult. At 75% power, that may not be quite the case. But as the sport slowly returns to normal, players can take solace in the fact that while much has changed since the 2019 tournament, some traditions remain.
The biggest names in golf will compete for the bulk of this year’s $11.5 million in prize money, reports Golfweek. This means a $750,000 increase in prize money for the 2019 British Open. The 2021 winner will earn $2.07 million, compared to $1.935 million for Shane Lowry in 2019.
What to expect at the British Open 2021
Despite the one-year hiatus, the tournament should be in full swing as soon as the players are on the green. CBS Sports reports on the ratings for the 149th edition of the show.
