The Green Bay Packers just completed a terrific season, finishing 12-4-1 with the #2 seed in the NFC playoffs. (Tie-breaker: The two teams finished with the same record, but the Packers had beaten the Panthers in Week 17.) Aaron Rodgers was spectacular throughout the season, and set career highs in completion percentage and QB rating. Some will be hoping that the Packers can build off their success by pulling off a big trade for another elite QB, but the franchise is in a tough spot: they have two solid but aging QBs in Rodgers and the recently-retired Brett Favre, and also a roster that needs an overhaul. The Packers have to be careful that an Aaron Rodgers trade doesn’t backfire in the long

The Green Bay Packers cannot be stopped. They are the NFL’s best team and they most likely will be in the Super Bowl this year. Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and he plays on one of the best teams. It’s not a shock to anyone that the Packers are going to have a good year and will probably make another Super Bowl run.

The Green Bay Packers are a franchise rich with tradition, having won 14 NFL Championships since they began play in 1919, and going on to win another six without the help of Aaron Rodgers. This is due in large part to the fact that they are one of the most consistent franchises in the NFL, having finished in the top 10 in wins in 10 of the last 11 years, as well as in the top 5 in attendance every year since 2008.. The cat is now out of the bag. Aaron Rodgers has returned to the Green Bay Packers, albeit for just one more season.

One of the conditions of his return to the Packers this season seems to be that he be moved to the club of his choosing next season.

Several clubs will be interested in trading for the NFL MVP, but which ones will make the move? The amount of salary space available, the team’s requirements, and which players or draft choices clubs are willing to trade with will all influence where Rodgers ends up next year.

Broncos, Denver

The Broncos are the long-rumored probable club to pursue Rodgers next season, as well as the team he most wants to join. Although they have Drew Lock, who will most likely be the starting quarterback this season, you can guarantee they’ll make a run at Rodgers if he becomes available.

Remember, this is the same club that pursued free agency Peyton Manning in 2012, despite Tim Tebow’s playoff win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Manning trade worked out well. He guided the Broncos to the playoffs in each of his three seasons as a starter, including a Super Bowl victory in 2015. Manning flourished in Denver during his last years in the NFL, and Rodgers could be interested in making a similar move.

According to Spotrac, the Broncos have the most salary cap room of the three clubs listed, at $51,446,336.

49ers of San Francisco

Rodgers is a Bay Area native who attended the University of California and grew up a 49ers fan. According to Sports Illustrated, several NFL experts predicted that Rodgers’ favorite club would pick him before the Packers did in 2005.

Instead, the Niners selected Alex Smith out of Utah and subsequently traded for Jimmy Garoppolo in 2017, who is expected to start this season. The 49ers were considering Rodgers and selecting another quarterback since Garoppolo got struck by the injury bug in 2020 (he had a high ankle sprain). However, if anything happens to Rodgers, Garoppolo might be part of the deal.

Bringing Rodgers home towards the conclusion of his career would give them a chance to make amends. According to the San Jose Mercury News, the team considered trading for Rodgers before selecting Trey Lance, their favorite quarterback.

Even though Lance was selected, they would be foolish not to pursue Rodgers, even if just for a year or two. Another benefit is that Lance will be able to learn from the MVP as he prepares to be the starter one day.

With being stated, the 49ers will have to create place for Rodgers since they only have $6.3 million in cap space.

Raiders of Las Vegas

The Raiders are the surprise club in the mix for Rodgers, and like the other two teams involved, they are a West Coast franchise that would bring him closer to home while still having the ability to make a Super Bowl run.

The issue is if the Raiders are ready to make a move. If Rodgers is dealt, the club that acquires him will almost certainly have to give up a lot.

The Packers may demand not just high draft choices, but also experienced playmakers such as quarterback David Carr, running back Josh Jacobs, and even 2020 first-round draft pick Henry Ruggs III, a dynamic wide receiver.

That’s a lot to expect of just one guy, but if Rodgers can get the Raiders back to their golden days, it may be worth it.

The Raiders, like the Broncos, have space under the salary cap to sign Rodgers. If the Raiders were to trade for Rodgers, they would have $48 million on hand.

Last year at this time, the Green Bay Packers were coming off of a run that saw them earn a first round bye in the playoffs and people were dreaming about how many titles they could win. The Packers had a rough go of things after that and just recently finished a 4-12 season.
